“Nice accommodation but forget the extras”
Reviewed June 29, 2013

A lovely property ( rooms a little tired and showing wear - but to be expected in Tasmania in the 2nd best property at a location), but the special occasion extras package is frankly a disappointment - the award winning restaurant rests on its laurels and offers no flexibility to a restricted menu, and meals arrive at table undercooked. Suite turn down service a hit and miss affair (despite the friendly notice in the room warning about the time of the service). That said some of the front of house staff were very polite. The location is fabulous - so if that is what you are after then you will be happy, but if you are discerning expecting superior service to match the rate then you may be disappointed.

omg, the poo is everywhere from when you open yr front door till you get to your car. this is a nice place, we stayed for about 5 days and most of the staff except for this one girl that just really let the team down, were great. this girl was just a grump everytime we say her and it would bring us down.

cabins are good, we had a delux spa, nice enough, very quiet except when the next door neigbours turn up.

stock up on snack foods and drink because there is no where near by to get anything and if you do go for a long drive its very pricey.

the resturant at the lodge is way way to over priced for what it is and they dont offer a large selection on their menu. the bistro for lunch is a total rip off!!!! they also serve the resturants left overs from night before marked as chefs specials so becareful.

try not to stay in cabin 1, 2 or 3 because you will come back from a day hiking and your car park spot will be taken by others that cant see or read i guess.

big shout out to their maintenace man steve, I have worked in hotels for years and customer service wise this guy is a gem to the management of that hotel. Also tinille on front desk is a great front desk receptionist, always there with a smile and sooooo helpful with anything we needed and great source of knowledge.

Final note of resturants, dont feel locked in to having to eat there, there are places around so have a look on trip advisor and urbanspoon and you will find other places.

Room Tip: not cabin 1, 2 or 3

This is the only accommodation set in a National Park in Australia, as far as I know, and it is such a beautiful place to stay. It is beautifully decorated and has no TV, so it is a real get away from the rat race. You can have a BBQ at night in the surrounding bush and all the little wild animals come around to see what is going on. It is amazing. Close to lots of other attractions such as Wine Glass Bay and Coles Bay. They have the best fresh oysters close by too. A trip to remember.

Room Tip: If you want to make sure you have a really quiet spot, ask for a room further away from the main bui...

Our arrival was delightful with a friendly greeting at reception and a genuine feeling of a REAL 'let us know if we can do anything to make your stay more enjoyable'! Fantastic accommodation in a deluxe unit complete with a magnificent spa overlooking the water. A bathroom with a heated floor - a true luxury when the temperatures outside are near freezing. And a spacious living area with TV and DVD to provide entertainment when the weather was more conducive to indoor activities than outdoors. The food in the restaurant was sensational - try their seafood platter for two - it won't disappoint. We'd go back there in an instant!

Room Tip: The deluxe units are worth the extra.

We had our wedding here in May so we really put the place through it's paces and it was pretty much faultless.

Aside from the beautiful location which many reviewers have already commented on, the way in which the staff at Freycinet lodge went about organising and executing the function was outstanding. Special requests (and there were many, from dietary requirements to room changes to bringing our own wine) were no problem and possible issues were anticipated and solutions sorted before it became a problem. We were extremely happy with how it all came together. Also, unlike other venues who hear the word "wedding" and tripple the prices, Freycinet Lodge offered us excellent prices at every turn. We had a fantastic weekend and walked away having spent less than we thought we would.

The food, as has been mentioned by many other reviewers, is fantastic. It was one of the main reasons we chose this venue and it did not disappoint on the day. For Oyster lovers don't miss the smoked salmon and caviar oysters - phenomenal. Even if you don't stay here, do drop in for a meal.

With a large party we had friends or relatives in most accommodation classes. Both the Freycinet and Oyster bay cabins were clean and nice enough. Very similar except for size, but looking a bit dated. Perhaps not what some travelers would expect for the price. No TV, no iPod dock, access to second bedroom via the main bedroom, but all had a balcony and the larger Oyster bay cabins had a small but quite functional kitchen.

One of the many nice things the staff did for us during our stay was upgrade us to a wineglass premier cabin. And it was excellent. Large, well appointed bathroom, spa bath overlooking the beach, kitchenette, balcony overlooking oyster bay, TV, iPod dock, data, champagne waiting for us on arrival, etc, etc. These rooms have been recently refurbished and they are very good. Definitely stay in one of these if you can.

Overall, the experience was outstanding. We, and all our party had a fantastic weekend and it was due in no small part to the effort put in by the Freycinet team and the excellent service that extended from the function itself to the restaurant, bar and the front desk.

Highly recommended.

We spent a night at Freycinet Lodge in May. This is not the ideal time to visit a seaside resort but we still enjoyed our stay. We agree with many of the other reviews--the rooms are only average. We really enjoyed the food. We ate in both the bar and the restaurant. The restaurant's seafood platter is worth the splurge. It is a three tiered array of fresh, steamed, smoked and fired seafood--all fresh and very tasty. Other than the room quality my only complaint was a surcharge to use my credit card.

Previous reviews made me nervous about choosing this lodge but it was great for a break.Staff were helpful. The cabin was roomy and warm ( cabin 1). It was right next to the lodge and had additional rails etc for people with a disability. The resort is well located. The dinner was quite good and a 25% discount. Breakfast was ordinary and not hot. Poached eggs were over cooked and mushrooms tasted like they were microwaved.

Cape Tourville lighthouse is must visit and is quite nearby.
