“Bit of a climb”

Bit of a climb up to the lookout but on an excellent track. The view is everything you've heard and seen. Well worth the effort.

“pinnacle view”
Reviewed November 13, 2013

A gentle walk to the lookout generally take about an hour but normally you might get distracted by the beautiful trees and bird chirping. There are wooden furniture designed and built by the School of Architecture Student along the trail. Once you get there, the bay really captures your eyes!

“Stunning”

Beautiful spot in Tasmania with an amazing lookout post, the "path" down to the beach is hard going but well worth it once you get to the beach.

“Unbelievable!! Remarkable!! never to be beaten, views.”
Reviewed November 9, 2013

This is a pinnacle of experiences in a state that delivers punch and verve with uncompromising raw beauty.
Freycinet peninsula offers numerous magical beaches, ideally suited to beach combing, but none hold a candle to beautiful Wineglass bay. The cove is one of Tasmania's best. its crescent-shaped white sand beach is bounded by rugged granite peaks. Your assault can only be carried out either by boat or using your feet. I would suggest feet first, perhaps boots are more appropriate, and then do the cruise. The image of turning around a mountain peak and staring, mesmerised at the bay remains like wallpaper on my memory bank .
Start at the Freycinet south-south-east Track carpark. (i kid you not.... that's the official name),near Coles Bay. From the car park climb 1.5 km to reach a saddle between Mount Amos and Mount Mayson. The saddle is 200 m above sea level and is surrounded by majestic granite boulders. From here ,a 200 m turn to the left will reveal the first glimpse of this stunning Wineglass Bay,ahead. Knockout experience.
Leave the saddle and the crowds, descending 1.5 km to the north-west end of the beach..The damp forest,as you descend, contrasts with the dry slopes west of the saddle. Walk the entire white sanded beach, this time with your boots wrapped around your neck,to reach the sheltered end in about 25 minutes. The calm sea is great for a swim....always carry your swimmers and a towelette with you.... great place to have lunch. As you munch on your sandwiches you will be staring at the remarkable vision of the Hazards ,straight ahead.
When you have recouped your strength, retrace your steps to return back to base.

“What they say about Wineglass Bay is true”
Reviewed November 1, 2013

It really is the loveliest beach on earth. Getting there is NOT easy, but worth the effort. A great destination in the Australian summer months, but be prepared for labile weather, very burning bright sun, and mosquitoes.
