“Building in wood”
Reviewed October 19, 2012

We came across this place by accident whilst travelling from Hobart and just had to stop and have a look.

Boat building from basics incorporating the native, protected Huon Pine this centre offers the experience for anybody from a complete beginner to sponsor and build their own designed boat under expert tuition using traditional skills.

As an amateur woodworker and sailor I wish I lived closer and had the finances to undertake up to a years break to become almost a modern day Noah! A handmade boat on the Solent would be a feat and something to behold.

A very memorable experience and I wear my purchase woollen beanie hat with pride and constatntly admire the small Houn Pine token I returned home with.

Well worth the visit and my thanks to the more than friendly staff on hand to explain everything.

“A must-do attraction!”
Reviewed October 7, 2012

I recently visited the Wooden Boat Centre in Franklin and was absolutely blown away by it! There's a great museum and for just $8 you can do a tour which includes a walk through their workshop to see the boats which are currently being built. It’s amazing to see these boats coming to life using traditional shipbuilding techniques. Those who are really keen can even sign up to do a multi-week course in shipbuilding. Definitely well worth a visit – highly recommended!!
