The Lufra Website claims to be a four star hotel with Austar, a Pool & Spa's, facilities that seem appropriate to their adverised price of $170 per night for a Studio Twin.....After checking in we discovered that there was no Austar, the Pool was permanently boarded up, & all that remains of the spas are the securing iron bolts sticking dangerously out of the stained concrete. Obviously once there was a fine guests recreation area with Pool, Spas & BBQ Facilities....We BBQ'd in the building site of what remains of the guest area. As the Website states the Hotel is part of the Best Western Group I thought that I'd make a complaint however the unfriendly manager informed me that the hotel was no longer part of the Best Western Group!!!!. Nice location but ..

Room Tip: If possible try for a First Floor Studio as the floor/ceiling is so thin that guests walking around...

As the "unfriendly" manager who tried to explain to the "unwilling-to-listen" guest the reasons for website and other information not being up-to-date I acknowledge his concerns but take exception to a complaint of this nature that is made at check-out AFTER STAYING 3 DAYS when an earlier discussion may have been more beneficial.

As manager I accept responsibility for the property, the facilities and for guests' satisfaction and am disappointed when there is a problem or the visit does not meet the guest's expectations.

The guest mentions the rate of $170 per night - this is for a recently AAA-rated 4 STAR studio(March 2012) . He does not mention that he was on a 3-day package at a total cost of $210 - which included a $50 meal voucher.

The hotel is no longer part of the Best Western group but the units are now the BEST WESTERN LUFRA APARTMENTS. Check out the Best Western website.

The pool has been closed due to lack of water (we rely on rainfall) and spas have been removed for the same reason and due to their deterioration by being exposed to the elements.
The AUSTAR service was removed by previous management and replaced by 16 digital channels. The website has been under the control of a third party and is now in the process of being reclaimed and upgraded.

We stayed in one of the hotel rooms which overlooked the beautiful Pirates Bay. We found our room to be very comfortable and clean. The room had a new bathroom which was very nice.
We ate at the hotel every night and enjoyed the meals. They had a nice selection of meals on their menu. The breakfast is a buffet style with plenty to choose from.
The Lufra Hotel is situated over the road from Pirates Bay and the Tessellated Pavement and about a 15 minute drive down to Port Arthur. We will definately visit again.

We stayed in the 2 bedroom studio, which was fantastic, surrounded by such beauty, it had a wonderful and relaxing outlook, hard to fault the natural surrounds. I think the apartment is probably a little over priced, but this tends to be the trend in Tasmania. I rated childrens activities as poor, due to the fact the advertised pool is closed & ditto for the spa. The childrens play area looks like a death trap from the 70's. That said, with Pirates Bay on the door step, we were never bored & spent all our time exploring. We will definitely visit again, it is such a great spot, but the rest of the hotel could do with some updating & the staff at the front desk were less than helpful, I had to prompt for any information and can't remember seeing a smile.

LUFRA HOTEL is no longer operating under the Best Western banner but the self-catering units are now known as the BEST WESTERN LUFRA APARTMENTS. Guests' reactions and reports are in direct proportion to their expectations and the service/facilities offered. Since taking over management of Lufra in July 2011 we have endeavoured to provide guests with information relating to the standard of rooms available. The 4 star self-catering units are exceptional and feedback is positive. The iconic hotel (built by Reg Ansett in 1948) has undergone some changes and has rooms rated 3.5 stars and some budget rooms rated 3 star. There are new bathrooms in rooms with water views, improved office and reception areas, new electrical switchboards and other "out-of-sight" essential work has been carried out and improvements will continue. The kitchen facilities have been upgraded and, with the employment of competent staff, Lufra is now highly recommended as a place to eat on the peninsula.
The swimming pool has been closed to preserve water. The outdoor spas and the children's playing equipment have been removed due to their poor (unsafe) condition.
Work is about to commence on installing extra water storage tanks and improving the water pressure. Reception staff are generally friendly, outgoing and helpful so it is a surprise to read comments to the contrary.
We value feedback from guests and would prefer any concerns to be advised to management as most problems can be addressed and overcome during their stay.

This should be 2 hotels with 2 different ratings. Wotif should not be selling rooms here as 4 star because the section of the motel I was in was 2 star at best.

We found our accomodation lovely, affordable and perfect for that getaway.
The food was lovely, staff were very friendly, accomodating and helpful. The family units are where we stayed so if you intend to stay for more that one night I highly recommend you opt for one of the newer units.

Room Tip: Choose a new unit.

We had spent a glorious 10 days throughout Tasmania, and staying here was our final stop. We will never stay here again at the lufra , the owners are rude and have no people skills , why are they in the hospitality industy . It is filthy, do not eat at the restaurant unless you want to be sick, wonderful view but what a terrible place, we stayed in the old part of the hotel. Disgusted!!

We chose to stay in Eaglehawk Neck because of its proximity to Port Arthur, and the choice of accommodation in this part of the world is fairly limited. This place was set up by Reg Ansett in 1948 to give everyone access to the 'best view on Earth'. Granted, it is quite a picturesque part of the world, with the very narrow connection to the mainland flanked by two bays, but the hotel itself has certainly seen better days. Not that there's anything particularly wrong with it; the rooms are comfortable and the view is pleasant, but certain elements of it do make it feel as though it belongs in another era. We didn't eat here, so I'm unable to comment on the quality of the food. Overall, the staff were helpful and the price was reasonable, so certainly not one to avoid.
