Three of us stayed here overnight as we had an early sailing with the Spirit of Tasmania across to Melbourne. The accommodation needs updating but the lady in reception said they are progressively refurbishing the units. We were in one of the rear units so the street traffic did not bother us. Once in a while we could hear the traffic on the nearby bridge but there must be little traffic in the night because we had a good sleep. The staff brought in another bed so each of us (adults) had a bed each although the existing double and single beds would have been enough for 3 people so it was nice of the staff to bring in the extra bed. Thanks.
There is a Foodworks store about 10 min walk up Tarleton St (away from the bridge) so we were able to get some nibbles. It was also a pleasant walk along the waterfront which is just across from the hotel.
The meal in the bistro is nothing to write home about but there is a cafe and a pizza shop across from Foodworks if you are desperate. We were at the bistro when it opened its doors at 5.30pm so we were not one of those who had to wait in a long queue and presumably wait longer for their meals. By the way, don't order the seafood platter because it is mostly chips under a single layer of fried seafood. Very disappointing. The taste platter was tasty and good value.
Jackie at reception ordered the taxi and I heard her distinctly request for 8am pick-up. Next morning, the taxi did not show up at 8am so I asked the lady at reception to call again. The taxi did not have an 8am pickup but the driver showed up within 10min. The driver said the booking was for 9am - and that is when the Spirit of T was sailing ! The lesson of the story is to ask the desk for a follow-up call just in case this happens to you. The taxi cost $8 from the hotel to the ferry terminal.
We booked the accommodation online and thought we had a good price. What we didn't know was that direct booking would have given us the same discount with our seniors' cards inclusive of continental breakfast. Make sure you call/email before you book online and compare.
Plenty of parking on-site. Would recommend for short stay and if you taking the ferry either way. If you are staying longer, there is nothing to see around this hotel. Better look for something more centrally located.
