“Comfort and value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2011

I work in Latrobe frequently but usually stay in a townhouse. On this occasion accommodation wasn't available for 2 nights so I was put up at the Lucinda B&B.I looked up the price later and it was $145 for the spa suite that I had. That is pretty good value in Tasmania. You do get a cooked breakfast in the morning.
The room was large. Some wear and tear obvious but you are in a building dated from 1891.The bed was comfortable and I had my best sleep in a month. The bath was delightful allowing a nice long soak in the morning..
The location is very good.An easy walk to the town centre-though accessed by a right of way behind the houses in Lucinda court just across the road.from the end of this right of way you can access the trails on Dooley's hill-lots of wildlife even during the day, wildflowers and some good views over the Mersey Valley.
The grounds are delightful and full of spring blooms at present.Hostess Fiona was great.
Latrobe is a good base for exploring the northwest and it is good that I can now reccomend some accommodation.

This was our final B&B for our 10-day stay in Tasmania. It is located off the road leading from the main highway roundabout and the village of Latrobe. You drive up this narrow driveway and there you are at this old mansion.

All rooms are on the second story and there is no lift/elevator, so there is a restriction to those that cannot climb stairs. Breakfast is provided downstairs to order. The hosts will recommend dining facilities in town. You can drive into Devonport, but no need as the eating facilities in Latrobe are fine.

Close enough to Cradle Mountain, stunning Devonport and witha few charms of its own (Visit the Antique store is a MUST: not antiques only but everything imaginative, creative and glorious) this B and B is lovely inside and out. It is beautifully restored and the rooms are extremely pretty and Victorian. Perfect for a romantic couple or a solo traveller looking to unwind. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Cooked breakfast. Highly recommended,

This imposing Victorian mansion set in four acres of hillside parkland was built in 1891 as a private residence for Dr. William Stewart. Today it's a B&B.

Despite its grand exterior the Lucinda B&B is not quite as opulent as you might expect inside. The reception area is similar to a motel and the breakfast was nothing special. But our room was spacious and had a good bathroom. Fiona, the owner, was a very pleasant host.

The B&B is rather too far from the town centre to walk, so you will definitely need a car. There's quite a nice drive nearby along the estuary. Latrobe wasn't the historical gem we'd been expecting but the high street is reasonably interesting for a few minutes stroll, with several old shops and a few restaurants. Overall I would not make a detour to visit Latrobe, but it might be a useful place to stay if you want to be close to the Spirit of Tasmania ferry dock in Devonport.
