“Not very accommodating”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2010

If you have children this is definately NOT the place to stay while in Davenport. when we asked to update our accommodation we were informed that children were not allowed above the 2nd floor. The restaurant was Al A Carte (also room service) & the only other place to eat for a family within the hotel was what I call poor roadhouse service within a few feet of the gaming room. Give this place a miss!

If you have children this hotel is definately NOT family friendly. On arrival we asked for an upgrade for the night and were informed that children were not allowed above the 2nd floor. There is no adaquete eating facilities for a family meal unless your children are gourmets or they would like to eat at counters in the gaming room or expensive room service from the al a carte restaurant.
Definately a hotel to miss!

Stayed for one night on a business trip. Stayed in a delux Spa room and it was definitely worth the money. I'm told this hotel is slowly being renovated. So far only the 4th floor has been done. The room was spectacular. Electric controls for heat, blinds, curtains, lights etc, comfortable bed, flatscreen tv and the best part - the bathroom. Wall facing room is glass with a blind that automatically drops when you close the bathroom door. Wonderful spa bath with speaker above linked to TV so you can still watch through glass wall as you have your spa. Shower with 2 heads and nice sink and vanity. Probably one of the nicest rooms I've stayed in. Slept really well. Heard no noise from other rooms or hallway.

I've had a colleague stay in one of the standard rooms and he said that it was pretty awful and really really needed renovating.

The rest of the hotel as other's have mentioned is a basic country motel. Bar with pokies downstairs, restaurant where we had breakfast was standard, nothing special. Also there appears to be a conference room off the restaurant.

Be careful when ordering breakfast in the hotel. My colleague was told about a breakfast special when he made the booking over the phone, but because he didn't say we wanted it at check-in we were charged the full amount. He challenged it and we were finally credited back the difference. Apparently it is their policy not to confirm the breakfast special over the phone.

Other than this - It was a most enjoyable stay in a really spectacular room.

We stayed at this hotel on our first and last nights in Tasmania. It is very convenient if you are arriving or leaving on the Spirit of Tasmania ferry. If you park out the back you need to carry your luggage up some stairs before you reach the single lift. The rooms are dated, but reasonably priced for what you get, and there is a buffet breakfast available. (A continental breakfast was included in the price of our room). The on-site restaurant has a limited and somewhat pricey menu. It is closed on Sundays. There is a small selection of reasonably priced meals in the bar. There are a few eating spots within walking distance of the hotel. The only rooms that have airconditioning are on the top (3rd) floor. We were on the 2nd floor and arranged for a pedastal fan via reception. Fortunately for us the weather was mild both nights we stayed. The biggest problem for us was the cigarette smoke seeping into our room under the door. This happened on both nights in what is supposed to be a non-smoking hotel. There is only so much management & staff can do to stop people smoking in their rooms or hallways, but it was particularly unpleasant at this hotel.

We stayed at the Quality Hotel Gateway on 15/03/2009 after arriving in the evening on the Spirit of Tasmania and on 27/03/2009.

The rooms were comfortable and they had free use of the laundry washing machines and dryers which came in handy. Our rate included the continental breakfast. The hotel was close to supermarkets, restaurants and had free parking.

I'd stay here again without hesitation.

Admittedly I assumed that booking at a 'Quality Hotel' would result in a quality hotel... I had envisaged suited front-office staff and professional, courteous service. Really it is just another country motel (but clean and well-priced.)
It is my fault that my expectations weren't met - the place does advertise itself as 3 1/2 stars which is fair and representative. I just didn't realise this before I stayed there.
Nonetheless, for a country motel the service was friendly and the rooms were sufficiently equipped. It was a little tired and run-down in parts but for a 3 1/2 star motel this is to be expected. We had an enjoyable stay and I would recommend the motel to anyone who is looking for that kind of facility in Devonport.
