“lovely view if you like shipping containers”
Reviewed January 20, 2013 via mobile

Get there to find all I could see was shipping containers, then walk into the cabin to find that there was one small seat for three of us, son had to sit on a pillow on the ground. Go into the bedroom and see the beds are not made. Then turn on the tv and notice there is no austar as advertised everywhere (excuse was too many people complained about too many channels). Go to make a cupper and there's no water coming out, after five minutes with the tap on finally water comes out but it's nearly black and not usable had to leave all taps on to try to get water clean enough to use, apart from all that there's a good pub up the road with great meals

We camped here for 5 nights using this caravan park as our main base. We travelled to Stanley (The Nutt) took 1 1/2hrs, Cradle Mountain took 1 1/2 hrs, Launceston 1 hr. The facilities in the camp kitchen were wonderful very equipped and clean. Also a large digital television. The only problem that we found that it can get very windy as the park is fairly open with no wind breaks around. It is ideal for campervans and caravans.

The last stop of our 2 week holiday before boarding the ferry for Melbourne. We stayed 2 nights in a standard cabin (6 berth). Very clean and tidy. Double bedroom with double sliding doors and big windows. Kitchen with full fridge and full gas stove. Good sized bathroom with shower screen (not curtains) and separate bunk room (not required by us). Full linen supplied and fully equipped kitchen. At $158.40 for a couple for 2 nights (on-line 20% deal) it was well priced. Electric panel heater seemed to work only on maximum. Fortunately the weather was not too cold. The site is a bit windy (on the coast) and the wind shook the cabin a little sometimes, but not a worry. Not many trees or garden yet, but it isn't long since this site was a drive-in theatre, so time for that (if they don't blow away) We could have stayed here longer. We were very near the Spirit of Tasmania ferry terminal.

Information Centre in Devonport recommend Discovery Holiday Park to us. Booked a cabin with them. When we got to the cabin what a pleasant surprise. Unsure if we got a cheap rate or not but excellent for the price we paid. Cabin with a double bedroom & a bunk room, kitchen & bathroom, all linen supplied, certainly not what we call a cabin in New Zealand more like a motel. Bright & airy. Clean. We had cabin 34. Best cabin we had while touring Tasmanina. Lady on reception very helpful. Thank you for a wonderfull stay.

On arriving at the Discovery Park we had a warm welcome ,which was nice to see ,found the Spa Cabin very clean , linen was very good, bed was excellent probably the most comfortable of our whole trip and the warmest log gas heater ,just like a real wood heater ,was lovely and warm ,the cabin had everything you could ask or want for at a very reasonable price ,great views only a stones throw from the beach great area to go for walks and is also dog friendly ,would highly recommend to all my friends, will be back .

Room Tip: Spa was great .

We stayed in cabin 10.because it has a spa ,we booked online and payed online and rang to confirm the booking the following day the morning of our arrival ,when we arrived at 3pm the room was not ready, the lady in charge had not checked up on the bookings and wanted to put us in a non spa cabin ,as we had payed extra for a spa cabin my wife and i had to come back 1 houre later 4pm to check in.the cabin was a bit dusty ,the carpets needed vacuming ,the bathroom roof has mould growing on it near the shower, hair appeared in the spa water when i turned on the pump ,yuck, the light in the bathroom was covered in thick dust, also the two lamps in the bedroom were coated in dust to , the toilet paper was very poor quality ,lucky we had some in the car,the air freshener was empty,we often stay at this place but this has been the worst stay so far,the couch is not nice to sit on as it has a hard part that digs into youre shoulder blades and makes them sore, the fabrick was not very clean so we covered it with a towel ,we had stayed two days earlier at their Mornington park spa cabin in Hobart and it was clean and fresh ,i dont think i will returne again to the Devonport site as i feel a bit let down by this experience and i have been a regular at this park since the early 1980s when it was a caravan rental site.

Room Tip: Take toilet paper and towels and stay up the back part of the park it is quieter.
