We had heard many reports of this great attraction but nothing prepared me for the reality. Here is a double sided wall of fragrant Huon Pine hand carved with the story of the area in amazing artistry but the thing that really took my attention is the fact that some panels are complete while others are yet to be started and still others are only partially done. I was moved to see both fine finished work and roughed out work in the same panel and the dynamic, evolving nature of the art in full view of the public. As well as the wall, numerous other amazing examples of this craftsman's work is displayed in this huge timber building. And the smell, the fragrance of Huon Pine, is alone worth the visit and all for $10!

The Wall is an extraordinary attraction by an amazing artist/sculptor, Greg Duncan. The artwork is completely self funded, hence the $10 entry fee. Some complain of paying to see an unfinished work, yet the fact it is unfinished gives you an amazing insight into the craftsmanship and patience that is going into this one of a kind storytelling of our past. You get to see this story evolving from basic drawings to the rough carvings and then the final detailed, life-like figures. His other woodcarvings in the building are mind blowing;..coats and gloves that look so real..metal that is actually wood. The building itself is a work of wood art. Outside looks like a tin shed, but once you enter it becomes something else.
Inside you feel the need to photograph everything, but cameras are banned, as taking pictures without capturing the lighting would devalue the detailing and feel of The Wall. There is a great book on sale that captures the colour and detail beautifully for $22. We bought one and felt it was great value. Our friends get to experience a small part of it. You can also relax and enjoy a fine wine next to the roaring fire in comfortable seats.
This is another attraction that we look forward to returning to in the future

Wow! What an experience. Recommend it to even "non arty" people like me. I cannot begin to imagine the time that has been put in. A real Tassie gem!

Obviously the Skilled Craftsmanship of the Creator is unrivalled. It was predicted to take him 7 yrs to finish. (Another 3 yrs to go). The work completed so far, is magnificent. Showcasing the workers of "old" in Tassie, the intricacies of detail is immense. However, I am loathe to pay $$ for unfinished work. Take a look if you have the time.
