“Needs an update”
Reviewed April 1, 2014

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights this month & have mixed feelings about it. Whilst the rooms were spacous & clean & the bed was confortable, the room itself was a bit dated & could use a make over. The TV was an old analogue model with a digital tuner, requiring 2 remotes to work it. Where it was placed it could not be seen from the double bed. The electric heater in the corner was tempermental leaving the room cold. Internet access is only available in the reception area not the rooms. My room was on the left side, a long walk from reception, without a view, the right side has the views. The buffet breakfast & dinner were OK but un-exciting The staff were friendly & helpful. For me the hotel is overpriced & badly needs updating.

Room Tip: Rooms with a view are on the Right walking from reception

Friendly staff upon arrival, recommend the Wilderness Gallery. We went for a walk along the wilderness trail which was picturesque and well maintained. We stayed in a King Split level room which was very comfortable and overlooking the valley. Only fault would be not enough suitcase room for 2 travellers.
Very friendly wait staff in both restaurants and the food was delightful. Such a lovely place to stay away from everything but so close to the Cradle Mountain attractions.

Room Tip: Recommend split level room facing over the Valley.

One of the specialties of this hotel was BBQ Wallaby!! Really!!! My husband decided to try it & I had a tiny taste. Didn't taste gamey at all!! Sorry vegetarians!

I hadn't realised it was a motel like accommodation but turned out very nice. The only thing that disturbed our sleep was the VERY loud guests standing outside our room with no consideration of the early hour for other guests in the hotel.
There's only 60 rooms. Thirty on one end and thirty on the other end. We had a great view of the reserve in room 10.
The bath spa was small but big enough for one!!

I agree with other guests that I found it very pricey but overall, I found everything in that region very pricey.
The best lunch & atmosphere was at Peppers café! Outstanding service too by Philippine waiters!!

We had tried to get into the Peppers Lodge but it was full, so I feared the worst when our travel agent booked us into the Chateau, particularly as Lonely Planet described the rooms as being 'a bit motel like' - so I was pleasantly surprised when we entered a large, light room with lots of wardrobe space and 2 queen beds, and a charming view over trees and bush (and a wallaby). The 'chateau' is about to change its name to 'hotel' and is under the same ownership as the Freycinet Lodge which bodes well for its future. My only negative comment on the room was that the bathroom was on the small side and dominated by a spa bath which remained unused as we preferred the slightly wonky shower. The staff we extremely helpful with the reception guy pointing out to us where in the park we could sight wombats (we did - 5 of them!). We did eat at the hotel - not the buffet (I noted the fairly adverse comments on TA) but in the main restaurant and, yes, it was pricey but really excellent so we ate there twice. I recommend the pork belly and the crab/chilli dish. Friendly service. Good, if rather tired décor, bar again with chatty barman and excellent service.

Stayed here for 1 night just for hiking in Dove Lake. The hotel is in a very good location for visiting Cradle Mountain but was quite pricey. The lobby was cozy and the staff was friendly and helpful. The wifi was always out of order. My room was newly renovated which were spacious, fresh and spotless, bed was comfy and bathroom was new and clean with all the necessary amenities. A small kangaroo was outside my balcony which created a touch of the wild nature.

Had tried the buffet dinner, quality was OK but has very limited choice, for $38 per person, it didn’t worth the money, but in a cold evening up the mountain, you have not where to go. Again, the breakfast buffet was quite simple and not much choice either.

Room Tip: Ask for a newly renovated room

The two of us had an overnight stay in room with 2 queen beds and a spa. The room was tired looking and had a small and very outdated tv where you had to use a separate remote for Foxtel. The room was clean with nice quality towels. The spa bath was also lovely. We had a problem with our telephone but it was quickly replaced with a working handset. It was advertised as free wifi but there was a sign up stating that modem wasn't working in the hotel!! The hotel was pricey so I was expecting a little more. We didn't eat on site as we felt the two restaurants were a little pricey. A highlight was seeing a wallaby visiting just near the entrance on dusk. The walls were also paper thin and you heard everything going on around you.

This hotel is quite pricey. We stayed 2 nights. I was shocked when I opened the door realized that it is a handicap room (which I didn't request). It was booked through a travel agent. The bathroom is one big room with no shower stall or tub. It happened right on my birthday, so I asked to change room but was declined. Reason was - no room available; and I was told it was just a bigger bathroom for me to use. Option given to me was to pay extra for an upgrade. We ended up paid for the upgrade to have a regular bathroom. (Note: no wifi in room).

Room Tip: Room facing the wood is nice, and higher room number is quieter and away from front desk area.
