We stayed one night, a bit of a scare as they could not find our booking straight away, room was large but a bit dated thought they would have had digital tv's not still analogue and set top box! We had the buffet dinner as the restaurant did not have anything that took our fancy. $38 a head for buffet a bit rich but food was nice, wait and bar staff were very friendly. Thought it was a bit rich charging surcharge on credit card when we were paying top dollar for everything.

We only stayed here for one night, and it was enough. I understand that due to the remoteness that things may cost a little more, but you should at least expect something that is up to date. The bedspreads in the room were very worn and a little grubby, and the furnishings are quite tired as well. Our heater was not working when we arrived (and boy did we need it!), but a quick call to reception and they came and fixed it within 10 mins. The staff we encountered were really great and friendly and professional, but this place really does need to be updated. If you were only paying a hundred dollars a night you may expect a tired place, but for double that I certainly expect better. The room was also very noisy, being situated right at the beginning of the hallway near reception. The room was clean though. We ate in the Blue Gum restaurant for dinner, and though it was very expensive the food was lovely (although they forgot our 5yr old boy's meal...but quickly fixed it) My husband and son ate at Quolls for breakfast the next morning (I didn't as I could not justify the price!!!!!!) so expensive for a basic buffet breakfast. We had some food (fruit) from the day before which I had in the room while they went. Overall if you could afford to stay somewhere else I probably would (choice is limited though, being where you are) its just a tired place, but the staff really are lovely and will do what they can to make your stay enjoyable. Cradle Mountain is such a spectacular place, so maybe you just have to be prepared to have the basics for your accommodation??

We stayed there this weekend (Oct 2013) for a wedding being held at the venue. We stayed in the spa room which although dated was easily warmed with the room heater and electric blanket. The bed was comfortable . We ate lunch at the Quoll restaurant twice and both times the food was very good and reasonably priced. We also had the buffet breakfast which was slightly limited in choice of hot food but there was plenty of fresh fruit available. The wedding was beautifully put together and serviced. Wifi was free but not always working and blamed on the weather when I questioned it. Overall it is a good base for exploration of the lake and national field.

Room Tip: Spa rooms are great and spacious. Note there is no phone reception up there but Wifi is free.

We stayed at Cradle Mountain Chateau in October 2013.
The Chateau's are in a fantastic location, and there is so much potential, but in the end, we were quite disappointed.

The rooms are very tired and old, from the carpet, to the caravan style bathrooms, to the 80-yr old bedding cover, to the tiny heater in the corner of the room (which did very little).
It felt a little like a nursing home and we were really uncomfortable which we found really unpleasant.

The buffet breakfast was plain appalling. We paid around $26-$30 each for breakfast, so I expected quality, and received flavourless food, with very little choice, and I didn't even know it was possible to ruin scrambled eggs. Buffet dinner was marginally better, but still very expensive for very minimal choice.

We ended up going to Peppers (The Lodge) for buffet breakfast every morning after our bad experience at the Chateau. It's cheaper, better and there is so much more choice at Cradle Mountain Lodge for breakfast - the staff are much friendlier too!

On our second last morning at 9am, the fire alarm went off. We all exited our rooms to witness the owner running frantically down the hall. She didn't answer any questions and instilled quite a bit of panic in the guests. We didn't know whether to evacuate or wait, gather somewhere else, and we never got an answer in the end.
It's a shamed the hotel doesn't have better management as it has such massive potential and is in such a beautiful area.

We plan to return to Cradle Mountain next year, but will certainly base ourselves at the Peppers lodge as it is better value and a much more comfortable stay.

Room Tip: Internet and phone connection is non-existant while you're up the mountain. Grab your groceries and petrol in Sheffield before you drive up the mountain or you'll have to travel another hour to get back down. The national park visitor centre runs a shuttle bus to the national park every 15 minutes. Very handy if you don't have a car with you, or aren't comfortable driving in the snow.

Nice place to stay, friendly staff but the breakfast and buffet at Quolls was a bit too pricey in my opinion. We got snowed in for a day and there wasn't much to do if you didn't read or play pool but overall it was nice
