“food...average at best”
Reviewed August 21, 2013

We visited the château and must say firstly that the Tassie Tiger exhibit was fantastic, really worth a look. The food in the restaurant however, on two occasions, was such a let down. On each occasion their was one staffer only. At this time of year (August) that's not a real problem as there are very few diners, but their lack of enthusiasm and rudeness is just plain annoying. Why do so many hospitality workers think to work in an expensive restaurant you need to act like a tool? After expending quite a bit of energy on walks / playing in the snow we were all starving and truly it's the only reason we managed to eat as much of our meals as we did. My 'medium rear' steak was beyond well done and nearly required a chainsaw to cut it, and while I don't mind a simple accompaniment to a great steak, this was a terrible steak and serving it with mash and one roasted tomato was insufficient for $29 in a 'fine dining' restaurant. The meal was garnished with those little sweet potato crisps which are supposed to be 'crisp' not cold, oily and chewy -yuck! The roasted tomato was obviously prepped so early that it was closer to semi-dried, leaving the mash which was salty and resembled hospital food flavours and yet was the highlight of the meal. All in all, over-priced, under-loved food with little atmosphere and dodgy service.

Cradle Mountain is such a beautiful place. My husband and I decided to go here for a holiday. We did have a great time tracking around Cradle Mountain and Dove Lake, our highlight was the snow and how beautiful the mountain side looked covered in white. The Chateau was quite a lovely place to stay and I used TripAdvisor to check out how good of a place it is and didn't find the reviews to be too bad. I did leave the Chateau feedback that the menu for their restaurant Grey Gum needed a little more variety and that the time it took to get our meal the first night we were there needed to be a little quicker. Unfortunately one thing I forgot to mention while I was there was to please ensure that the cleaners were a little quieter when cleaning the rooms at 6.50am each morning. That disappointed the stay for us as we couldn't get a good rest before our day activities.. Other than that our stay was pleasant :) and the staff are very polite.

Having been to Cradle Mountain National Park many times, we decided we would spend two nights at the Chateau. Our stay coincided with their "Christmas in July" buffet dinner function - this proved to be the best value of our 2 night stay ! Very enjoyable & plenty of food - a Dessert Table that defies description - wonderful !! Our room (standard room) was nicely appointed, quite large and a good bathroom & shower, plenty of hot water. However the standard room had a view mainly of the carpark (not much bush). - The A la Carte menu was for us a little disappointing, expensive and limited, and drinks from the bar were to our view also somewhat expensive - but, it is a Tourist venue, so this is to be expected I guess. Every staff member we met were friendly, helpful and very happy to assist with any request. Breakfast was either a Continental @ $18 or the full monty @ $25. Holiday & weekend stay packages are available, but you need to be quick as they seem to book out very fast.

Room Tip: Rooms numbering in the 50"s (i.e.50, 51, 52 etc.) overlook the rain forrest walk, are split lev...

We stayed here for 3 nights from the 10th July, this is the second time in 6 months we have stayed here and found the rooms to be great, yes the heating could have been better but I have found that to be the case in most places we stayed. I was up early due to wanting to take photos and was lucky enough to have snow there while we where there and temps as low as -2 degree. The rooms where clean and tidy well serviced and the staff that we had contact with could not have been more helpful. We had the pizza one night that came with a free beer and the pizza was lovely.
I would stay there again.

I cannot write enough praise about the Chateau. I have been here twice now and have loved every moment.

From the welcoming staff when you first arrive not being able to do enough to help you, and suggestions to about which tours are good for seeing animals in the wild (not in a bus!), to the so deliciously warm fireplaces, the comfortable beds, grandiose sitting/reading areas, the sumptuous artwork/photography on the walls and the outstanding food and service in Quolls restaurant (and the magnificent buffet breakfast), everything here is a delightful compliment to one of the most stunning places on Earth.

Major props to Glen in Quolls - he is particularly incredible at making you feel as if you are the only one in the room and the menus he creates (and accompanying wines) are another major high light.

If you've rated this the Chateau lower than a 4, please talk to your GP - you may actually need to start some anti-depressants as your view on the world is incredibly poor.

My husband and I went to the chateaus winter xmas. I was somewhat dubious after reading a few negative reports on Trip Advisor, But I needn't have worried. The weekend was simply marvellous. Our room, number 13, was beautiful with a lovely bathroom with a spa bath, and the bedroom had a little balcony opening via a sliding glass door, from where we looked into the wilderness. There were several wallabies coming close and looking up at us. The buffet dinner was equal to any we've experienced anywhere. My husband is a top chef, now retired, but very discriminating and he couldn't fault it. Then breakfast next morning was just as good with many dishes to choose from. The room had comfortable chairs and table. Excellent TV reception, the only thing wads the bed was rather too hard for our liking but everyone varies in how they like their beds! The staff were, without exception, courteous, friendly and very helpful. We were so impressed we've made a provisional booking for ne t years winter xmas.

Stayed overnight for Christmas in July. Whilst overall cost of package reasonable, the whole place needs a refurb to keep up with fellow Cradle Mountain Lodge just down the road.
Staff were helpful, and polite, so thankyou. food - buffet style ok, we didn't get any potatoes with roast meal, none to be seen, but just a small thing, however seafood offered was very good,
Package included music. He was a DJ who had over 19,000 songs and he asked for requests. Along with many others our age (a little older) none were played all night. There were a heap of children there who had taken over the dance floor and all that was played was for their age group. A pity for us as we had booked the night because one of the things offered was music. Interestingly the children and said adults with them were not even staying there but down the road.
Rooms - pillows the worst we have ever had in a hotel and only offered 1 each, very lumpy and flat. Blankets old fashioned, where are the duvets. Bathrooms need an urgent upgrade. We had room 38, don't have it as a washing machine was turned on in a laundry (for staff only) next door and was going at 1.30am! Hence no sleep. Come on staff, think of your guests.
We also visited the lovely art gallery. What a shame it was freezing, we know heating is expensive but why couldn't they at least light the wood heaters to take the chill off the gallery particularly as they were booked out for this night. Quite funny to see all the wood piled up next to the heaters scattered around gallery but not going. Surely the wood is an inexpensive way to heat it on occasions like this one, even if the wood had to be brought in to the area (we believe they are not allowed to chop down anything in the area).
Would we stay again, probably as we hope the above mentioned might be sorted.

Room Tip: We had a basic room, but have stayed previously in bigger rooms with view of wilderness. They are l...
