“Very restful”
Reviewed May 10, 2013

Lovely hotel, not much atmosphere , not very busy when we were there in march, restaurant was practically empty, we didn't want to eat till 8 and this seemed quite late for them to accommodate us. However the choice we made was good but quite expensive with wine. Lovely to have the wild life all around us, all in all quite a pleasant stay but not fantastic

Normal motel room. View of the bush. Warm enough to sleep in and not enough room to do anything else in anyway. A lovely library with an open wood fire where we were able to take our wine and snack and read a book or ipad. Free wi fi. Due to the secluded location you are limited to the Chateau for dining. Expensive restaurant or $37 buffet, good value if you eat a lot. Breakfast is a $25 buffet. We had tea and coffee in our room and ate lunch later at the national park information centre. Large comfortable bar area with a pool table for the evening. Very close to Dove lake and the start of all the Cradle Mtn, Lake St Clare walks. One of the best things about the facility is the outstanding wildlife/nature photo gallery , situated a hundred metres from the front door, worth taking the time to see but wear your coat in winter as it was quite cold inside.

The Cradle Mountain area is just fantastic and should be on everyone's must do list while visiting Tassie, Firstly the good; the room was clean and spacious and the view into the bush was great. Now the bad; the worst mattress I've slept on in a long time. It must be the original that came when the hotel was built which from the decor I would guess is late 80s. It had a distinctive sag in the middle and came complete with some very horrible creaks and twangs.. There was no other food option at the hotel other than than their restaurant which while very nice was also very pricey for a multiple night stay. All accommodation at Cradle Mountain is fairly expensive but in my opinion this place was not worth the almost $200 a night we paid. Oh and the wifi was so slows as to be all but useless. In short Cradle Mountain a big yes but Cradle Mountain Chateau a big fat no....

Room Tip: Ask if they have any rooms with mattresses made this century....

Very clean room with queen and single bed. Very clean bathroom with shower, toilet and vanity.
The beds are pretty firm. The buffet dinner and breakfast was very good with quite a large selection. The Greygum restaurant was booked out and we were not that hungry so paying $37.50 for dinner buffet was too much but only one of us ate. Ordering food in your room would cost about $8 surcharge so you are better off going to the buffet even if you are not that hungry. The library/lounge was very relaxing, great for a wet weather night that we had. Not as romantic as the Highlander but good value for money.

Cosy but modern room and public areas. The buffet breakfast and dinner were great value, with good quality ingredients. It is hotel style though so no kitchenette in the room to do more than cups of tea.

After a very long day of travelling, we arrived at the Cradle Mountain Chateau, tired and looking forward to a rest in our standard room. I must say that, upon entering our room, I felt a little disheartened; my disappointment was probably heightened by the fact that I had been expecting a lot more for our money. Everything about the room, from the television to the quilt cover, was quite dated. By the time we arrived it was freezing outside, and the room was heated only by a very small wall heater. Whilst sitting on the floor next to the heater in a desperate attempt to get warm, I ventured on to Trip Advisor to see what others before me had thought of the place (something, in hindsight, I should have done beforehand!) After reading through many reviews, my husband and I decided to take the advice of many previous travellers and upgrade our room to a split-level King room. Whilst still not overly impressive, it was a vast improvement on the standard room. The television was newer, the bathroom included a spa, and the room was larger and overlooked the forest, as opposed to the car park. It cost $40 to upgrade our room, and it was $40 well spent. The buffet dinner and breakfast was reasonable, although I probably didn't eat $37 worth of food at dinner. I understand that it is perhaps more expensive because of the remote location. On a positive note, the service was quite good; the Chateau staff were very friendly and helpful. If you're in the area simply to visit the National Park, the Chateau offers reasonable accommodation and food, albeit somewhat overpriced; however if you're in the market for a luxurious, secluded break, I would investigate other options.

Room Tip: Upgrade your room to something overlooking the forest and not the car park. If visiting in the coole...

we had two nights on cradle mountain and one night was spent here. the decor was average, the room was dark, the food was also average and expensive (Grey Gums was booked out and we had to go to the buffet). while not expensive, the rates were the same as other far more desirable accomodation on the mountain.
