We stayed in the Woodsmoke cabin and our friends were in Lancelota. Both simply perfect. Our cabins were immaculate, kitchen equipped with everything you could possibly want ( even clingwrap!!) comfy beds and a bath to soak in...bubble bath/salts might've been nice.
We were blessed with fantastic weather and got out an about as much as we could during our two night stay.
Would highly recommend the Tasmanian Devil night show..didnt sound that great but it was really informative and entertaining. We enjoyed a few meals at The Tavern and I had a lovely massage at the Spa at Peppers.
Ian and Sharon are wonderful friendly hosts, they clearly have a passion for what they do.
We cannot recommend Highlanders Cottages enough. The location is very central, an easy hop on/off the shuttle bus and you are everywhere you may want to be.
Sensational, the place, the people and the cottages!

We stayed in the Woodsmoke cabin and loved it. We did a road trip around Tassie and this was the best place we stayed by far. It was cosy, and not being directly next to someone made it feel more woodsy. Seeing wildlife run around was a highlight too.
We got the harty breakfast for breakfast which was packed with food (fantastic).
I have already told my friends to stay here if they go to Cradle Mountain.
I cant wait to come back in winter to see the snow and use the wood fire.

Everything said about the place in previous reviews is true and requires no more elaboration. The Peppers may be more luxurious with onsite dining facilities but we found the Highlanders a great low-key and cosy place in the NP area. Yet at this price (well I know all the lodges in the area are expensive compared to rest of Tas), the reception can be more helpful in handing out free brief maps of the area (only chargeable ones were available) and preparing a few light torches for patrons (not available).

We stayed in Lanceolata. Car was parked right outside the cottage. The room itself was neat and in the air there was the pleasant smell of wood. It came with a real mini fireplace and we had fun lighting it up for the night. The room was warm enough with the wood fire on. Bed, shower, toilet were all clean - with zero problem.

We got two possums visit us the night! I discovered them when I went out to fetch something from the car and they kept on pushing our door like they really wanted to get inside our room! Very lovely.

The breakfast provisions at $13/person were good enough although we had to cook them ourselves. Options for eating in the area which we tried included the no-frills cafe next to visitor centre and the bar restaurant inside Peppers. While there's nothing to write home about the cafe, the one at Peppers was quite good in terms of ambience and food/beer choices.

Other places were probably pricier for similar levels of comfort. I feel the Highlanders is a good solid option in the Cradle area - recommended.

We stayed in the Tallow Wood cabin which was private, very comfortable and well equipped with an ensuite bedroom and a separate double bed and large bathroom with a spa bath. Television, wood burning stove and electric blanket. We ordered a copious breakfast basket at $13 per person (bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms, eggs, orange juice, yoghurt, bread, muffins, jams, butter, fresh coffee). Excellent location walking distance to the Cradle Mountain visitors centre with its walks and shuttle buses. We saw pademelons and a wombat around the cabins.

What a stay, we could only stay 1 night, very much to our disappointment. What a great spot, these chalets/cottages could not be better. Position is great, quiet and you feel like you are the only one on the mountain! Wildlife great, wombats, echidnas, brilliant. We will be back!

Room Tip: Any cottage is great. Spend at least 2 nights, you will not regret it.
