My husband and I stayed just one night in Buttongrass Cottage on Friday night(10 August 2012). We arrived mid-afternoon, though it was overcast, the Highlanders look terrific. It had been snowing in the previous days so there was still a great cover of snow which made everything look magical.

Checking-in was easy and the map given was easy to follow to find cottage. The staff are very friendly and if you are checking in later in the afternoon/evening they light you fire so that your cabin is lovely and warm for you. We were a bit early for this lovely service.

Buttongrass is only for two people, open plan living room/bedroom but it is just lovely. Electric heater and wood heater, which makes the cottage lovely and warm and cosy. The kitchen is fully equipped with large fridge, stove, microwave and all your utensils, crockery, tea/coffee etc.

All the cabins are really private and peaceful. There are only 12 cabins in all, so quite exclusive.

They only drawback is that they are so popular you have to book well in advance, but that is a good sign that they are a top rate accommodation establishment.

I would highly recommend staying there, especially at this time of year. There is so much to do at Cradle Mountain.

Room Tip: If you look on their web site you cand see a map of the cabins and which ones you can park directly in front of, there are 4 that you park a short distance away from So is you want to be able to park right out front check it out. Otherwise I am sure that any cabin would be ezcellent.

Well what more can I say about this property but AMAZING!!!!!
From the moment we arrived we felt at home.....from Ian's welcome and his knowledge and honesty, to the general vibe of the property.
We stayed in Pandini (the only 2 storey cottage) and to find our fire place going on arrival was so nice and cosy. Whilst the cabin had all the mod cons needed for a stay thedre was also the rustic charm with beds made of rustic wood and hand made picnic tables and even a guest book for each cottage. Each cabin also comes with its own set of animals....we became friends with some pademelons who were always present, amongst other creatures.
TV reception not good so they had a DVD library, and also had some basic grocery essentials and alcohol for sale (none cheap but if you are silly enough to come to the mountain without your own alcohol then suffer with the costs).
Laundry facilities available but at $9 to wash and dry a load hurt a little. With the explanation that the laundry liquid that has to be used is environmentally friendly and made especially for them, wasnt so bad.
Devils at Cradle was well worth a visit and Ian's knowlegde on this organisation and what they do was brilliant.
So folks, definately stay here if you want the real Cradle Mountain, if you stay at the bigger places you would be doing yourself out of the best experience ever.

We have now stayed here twice in the same cabin (Bushmans Hut) and would go back in a heartbeat! Amazing staff put the heater on for us, left instructions and torch (as we had flight issues out of Melbourne and were arriving very late).
Had pademelons both stays and wombats also this trip. Almost snow but such a quiet setting with nature.
Breakfast baskets were very nice and great to see the managers utilising the local Tassie produce where possible, close to all the Cradle Mountain hot spots and cannot recommend these guys highly enough.

Had a wonderful time with the kids. The only thing I would say, is don't feed the possums. We didn't but it is obvious others do, because we had two possums doing a tag team, trying to break into our cabin. There were two at the door or the one. They would wait at the door and go for it before you blink. The cabin was cosy. The owners had the fire going before we arrived and they also lit it when we went out all day. Kitchen had all you wanted. The main bed had an electric blanket. Loved it. We also had pattimelons that would also visit, every morning and night. Staff friendly and helpful. A must to stay.

We have spent one night in the highlanders cottage in cradle mountain. The cottage was cozy with wooden decoration inside. The facilities were morden and new. It was also our first time to living in a place with true fireplace. The staff was very nice and prepared everything for us (including ligh up the fireplace) before we arrived. The cottage was just one minute or maybe less than one minute to the visitor centor .Very convenient. The evening time was more interesting than in the daytime with lots of cute animals around your cottages. The night we have spent in the cottage was more like an adventure with widlife. Highly recommended.
