I recently stayed at this property for 2N with 3 other friends in Currawong cottage. It is a large cottage with 2 bed rooms and a huge living room with kitchen. The cottage was very comfortable with ample heating in the rooms, bathroom and the living room. The beds were firm and comfortable (good back support). We previously read that there would be animals out and about the cottage but sadly we've only manage to catch a currawong (big black bird) round the house.

The staff at this property are very friendly and helpful. They've helped us arrange an awesome ATV Quad Bike tour. The cradle mountain area is very beautiful and 2 night was honestly insufficient to do it justice. Stay for 4 nights or so to take in the natural beauty, breathe the fresh air and see the numerous wildlife!

We also had the free breakfast for 2 (courtesy of tripadvisor) which is quite huge and good value for anyone thinking of getting it. However, it's still best to stock up with groceries in launceston before visiting cradle mt.

I titled this, "They Have thought of Everything" because that is a theme that appears again and again when you read the visitors book in the cabin. My wife and I stayed in Wombat Cabin for 1 night last weekend and just loved our little cabin. Next time we will definitely stay longer. It was perfect, especially the log wood fire with a never ending supply of wood. You need to bring your own food with you if you don't fancy going down the road to Cradle Mountain Lodge restaurant and paying for an over priced meal. But our cabin had a fridge, stove, oven, microwave and just about every kitchen utensil we could possibly need. They can also arrange a reasonably priced breakfast basket for you. Reception was lovely, welcoming and helpful and they had a massive selection of board games to keep us entertained. Just be sure to visit before they close (about 6pm we think?). A big plus was price. We got this cabin for $290 cheaper than we would have paid for the cheapest available room at Cradle Mountain Lodge. Which makes me wonder ... why would you stay there??? Also, the official hiking map was cheaper at reception than at the Cradle Mountain National Park Visitor Centre and way cheaper than at Cradle Mountain Lodge, which seems to add a few bucks to everything just for the heck of it.

On our arrival evening we popped down to the lodge to do a couple of the short walking trails nearby. We did the Waterfalls Walk and the Enchanted Walk. We were indeed enchanted. They were both so nice and anyone could do them. The following day we walked from Ronny Creek car park to Crater Falls and past Crater Lake, then up to Marion's Lookout which is well worth the steep climb. Then down to the boat shed at Dove Lake, and finished at Dove Lake car park. This hike was a bit more hard core and took us nearly 4 hours, but with long rest breaks. The scenery was just stunning. Hint: if you want to park at Ronny Creek or Dove Lake car parks, drive in before 10am. Otherwise you can get the free shuttle bus service that runs regularly - about every 10 minutes. Actually it's not quite free, because the park entry fees when you first arrive are pretty steep, like the mountain.

In summary, these cabins are perfect. You can't go wrong, but get in quick before everyone else finds out about them.

Upon arrival we were greeted by the very friendly hosts and shown to our more than adequate "Stringbark" cottage.

We had to light the fire both nights as it had snowed two days previous and the nip was still in the air.

Our cottage held 7 of us comfortably with the eldest child on the sofa bed.

I would recommend this as a most convenient place to stay when visiting Cradle Mountain but remember to book ahead.

We stayed in the Pademelon cottage for two nights. We loved our cottage so much it was hard to tear ourselves away to enjoy the spectacular scenery of Cradle Mountain National Park. I was happy it rained one day so we could stay inside toasting marshmellows in the fire! Very comfortable, self contained, oven microwave etc.. Great location opposite the visitors centre. Only downer was the small double bed, everything else perfect including the wildlife at your door! Exceptional customer service from Sharon and Co at reception very good local knowledge and big smiles!

We were delighted with our Buttongrass cottage. The handmade bed and toilet roll holder were the best of our 3 week holiday! The log fire was a novelty and we lit it every night although really not needed. Plenty of pre cut firewood was stocked within the cabin on our arrival. The kitchen was well appointed with full size fridge. Bins were emptied daily and towels were changed daily, if wanted. The cabin is located within easy walking distance to the shuttle busses and information centre, so a car is not really needed.

Recently spent one night in the beautiful 'Woodsmoke' cabin, timber panelled inside, wood burning stove, cosy queen bed, kitchenette, sparkling clean and fresh - simply put, a picture perfect vision of the ideal alpine 'lodge'. Even though we were there in summer we still lit the fire and were planning on going down to cradle mtn lodge for dinner (2 kms away) but once inside we really couldnt tear ourselves away. Cradle Mountain is a magical special place and Highlanders Cottages must be the amongst the most picturesque, most atmospheric log cabins anywhere in the world. could not recommend more highly if you are after mountain ambience, peace and tranquility. It's at the edge of the National Park, a place of awe-inspiring beauty, words can't do justice to it, it is really a must to see and so lovely to have our little cottage to come back to. 10/10.

Very good cottages. Good atmosphere, good facilities and in a very beautiful area. Breakfast little expensive, they give you bread for days in advance. But maybe it's a Europeanen habit to have fresh crusty bread every day, i am not complaining. It was just a wonderful stay. Owners are very nice and kind.
