“Great location & beautiful accomodation”
Reviewed July 13, 2013

Tucked away in the bush, 2 mins drive from Cradle Mountain National Park, a short walk to the Tassie Devil park - this place was a fantastic retreat. Animals abound - we saw quolls hopping about around our little cottage every day - so friendly, but NO ROADSENSE!! Drive slow - there's so much roadkill due to the abundance of animals in Tassie you don't need to add yours to it.

We stayed in a spa cottage - worth every penny to upgrade with the giant 2 person spa in the centre overlooking the bush beyond, and the stunning bathroom with marble-tiled shower made me wish I had the bathroom in my own home. Equipped with a gas fire place and wall-heater, the cottage heats up quickly and keeps warm all night in sub zero temperatures.

Bedding was luxurious and perfectly clean white cotton, with soft mattress and fluffy doona. The views were perfect. A great place for couples to get away, or young families wanting a slice of wild Australia - this is the place to stay. You might even see a wandering wombat!

Room Tip: Wanting a romantic couple stay? Pay the extra for a spa cottage you won't regret it.

Loved our stay - the cottage was beautiful, well heated, with great views out into the wilderness. It was raining too hard to do the hike around Cradle Mountain, so we stayed at the lodge in the common area, played games and drank wine - the staff was very helpful and accomodating.

Our spa room was everything we hoped for - even if the brown water (it's still clean!) looked odd.

We did have a little trouble finding the place - "3km past the turnoff to Cradle Mountain" actually means 3km after you TAKE the turnoff to cradle mountain - just where Cradle Mountain Road intersects with Belvoir Road. I have also just submitted an edit to Google Maps which did not assist in our confusion. After travelling a fair distance in the wrong direction, we called the Village for assistance. The fellow was not particularly helpful, failing to point out the while Belvoir Road does become Cradle Mountain Road, the turn off to Cradle Mountain is ALSO Cradle Mountain road. We worked it out. When we finally checked in (as darkness fell) the same staff member was pretty ambivalent.

We also asked about breakfast recommendations, which he gave, but he failed to mention that brakfast hameprs were available for purtchase from them for us to have in our room! We only found out while reading the info booklet in our villa once we settled in. Staff who care a little more would be a vast improvement.

Great things:
- Cottage was well designed and had everything you need.
- Was well heated and had electric blanket but didn't need to turn it on.
- Wildlife is literally on the doorstep and we had visits from pademelons and possums within minutes of arrival.
- Reception actually has a view of cradle mountain from their balcony (Peppers doesn't even have that).
Things that could be better:
- I called beforehand about what food was available and asked about breakfast hampers and was told there was nothing. When we got there they had a sign to order them but we were too late. Only slightly annoying.

Overall I would stay again. Its right near the Tourist Inforamtion, Devils@Cradle and food is available at Peppers down the road or the Chateau.

We spent a fantastic weekend here! Our spa was beautiful, the water does have a brown tinge but it is the wilderness vilage... we didn't take much notice and the cold tap water was fresh and clear. Our room was secluded and the lady at the reception desk was friendly and helpful. We were stoked with our visit to cradle mountain and our stay at the wilderness village just topped it off. Highly recommend staying here.

We stayed in a Spa Cottage for 2 nights during early Winter. Great location - close to the park entrance, Tasmanian Devil Sanctuary & Peppers Mountain Lodge (which has a nice tavern & Highland Restaurant which I also recommend). The cabin at the wilderness village was modern, clean and very comfortable with a gas fireplace and spa bath (great for relaxing after walks). The bathroom was a little worn but clean and functional. The cabins are private, quiet and surrounded by bush & wildlife. I definitely suggest taking some food supplies with you eg snacks, drinks etc as there are no stores nearby (just a very expensive convenience store in the caravan park next door).

All in all a great stay and a great place to base your Cradle Mountain visit.

Would highly recommend.

We stayed for 2 nights to savour the walks of Cradle Mountain. Unfortunately the weather deteriorated as we moved further from the coast. A pleasant drive from Launceston to Cradle Mountain via Deloraine, Paradise and Sheffield.
Our reception at the Wilderness village was excellent, highlighting the facilities and advice regarding meals and provisions. We had trouble making reservations at the nearby Highlander restaurant but that was quickly sorted out by our hosts. They will hopefully have their own restaurant open for summer 2014.
We had a basic cabin without a spa at a good discount . We were more than happy with the kitchen and bathroom. The bed was warm and cosy. we had 80km gales with rain overnight Saturday but Sunday was a little brighter so we did 2 half day walks around Dove Lake and to Crater Lake. The wombats came out to meet us on the flats.
We will be back.
