“warm pub”
Reviewed July 9, 2014

So much more accessible than the nearby restaurant, this is a nice little pub serving hearty warm food. Very much like a ski lodge communal area, this has bench seats for the simple wooden tables. Meals are a good size, simple and tasty. Overpriced for such simple fare, but the location is so isolated there isn't a lot of competition.

“Overpriced for average food”
Reviewed July 9, 2014

Cradle Mountain is an absolutely lovely place to visit, but its remoteness means that the restaurant options are very limited. My wife and I visited the tavern on our first night as we were looking for a somewhat more casual dining experience. The food here is very average pub food. Pub food can be great and sometimes there is nothing wrong even with average pub food. However, what is unfortunate is when you have to overpay for average food. For example, I purchased a pizza here that was almost $20, expecting either a large sized pizza or at least one with generous toppings. What I got was a tiny plate sized pizza with little toppings at all. Honestly, I enjoyed the $3 pasta my wife and I made back in our room more than eating here. Would definitely not recommend.

“Pub grub”
Reviewed July 7, 2014

Good food, pub grub - not great but adequate and good value considering where you are. Good for the kids.

“A little pricey pub food”
Reviewed July 5, 2014 via mobile

The bistro has a great ambience with a roaring log fire and a pool table and good service. Good serving sizes, the salmon was tasty, though disappointed with the steak which was overly gristle. There is also a 2% surcharge on credit cards.

“Absolutely Chaotic Shambles”
Reviewed July 2, 2014 via mobile

My wife and I, together with 2 kids (8 and 10) came up for a Sunday lunch in the tavern following a walk around dove lake.
Upon arrival the tavern was in a state of chaos, people looking for tables to sit at (most had used plates and cutlery), a queue 15 deep to place orders, no menus on tables.. I requested a kids menu from a staff member who advised "I think they are all out" I looked around and could not see any in the occupied or unoccupied tables.
We finally found a seat and placed an order, it was almost like it was the first ever day if trade and they were caught unaware, however this place has been trading for years and should have anticipated or at least had a contingency plan if they get busy.
Steak was ordered med/well, came out rare, wife enjoyed her chicken Caesar and kids enjoyed their chips (as we couldn't find a kids menu, that's all they wanted).
Drinks were quite dear, compared to similar quality establishments.
After a long drive and a freezing cold (but beautiful) walk, this was a real disappointment to all of us.
This establishment needs to look at its staffing levels and maybe even think about taking mobile devices off wait staff to increase their service level.
Please lift your game Peppers, we want to come up again during winter for an enjoyable lunch.
