We onyl stayed here for one night and I would have liked an extra. We arrived at dark to check into our Pencil Pine Cabin and it was fun trying to find it in the dark - no sarcasm intended. I loved walking from the cabin to the lodge through the bush along the boardwalks as you ran into all sorts of little fury animals along the way. We had a drink in the tavern but decided to eat in the restuarant. Although my husbands steak was moderately okay (we are spoilt with family member being a butcher so hard to please when it comes to steak - admittedly) i had the sage gnocchi and it was by far the worst i had ever had. The taste was lovely however the texture was awful. Don;t get me wrong as i still ate it ( it was late and the chefs were about to close and kindly stayed open to feed us so i didnt want to order something else and i was starving!) The service staff were fabulous and were a laugh. After dinner we had drinks in the lounge which is gorgous with comfy leather sofas and large open fire places. It had a nice atmosphere - people drinking, chatting, playing board games or cards etc. The Tavern has a pool table and was a good social atmosphere. The cabin was cosy and i loved the fire. I wouldn't use the spa as it didn't look all that clean (old spa and i am weary of the jets not being cleaned properly). Bathrooms a little dated but more than fine. Breakfast was okay the next morning. Good selection from what i could see but i stick to the basics. We also booked a Quad Bike Tour through the lodge which is highly recommended. Brendan i think the guys name was who took us - he was great. Even though we rode through ice cold water through a blizzard of sleet and snow it was awesome fun and well recommended - $110 per person (wet gear supplied). Just remember if you get bogged and he has to get off his bike to get you out you have to buy him a beer! :) Although we had checked out the lodge kindly allowed us to use a guest bathroom to get out of our wet gear (still got a little wet through the protective clothing) which was great. The soup from the tavern we ordered to warm up was pretty average and i didnt finish it. Overall a great stay due to the nice staff and beautful surroundings that i wish i had have had more time to explore. i liked this hotel as there are many walking tracks straight from the door of the lodge to 20 min walks to hour or more walks. this would be a great place summer or winter. i was told by a local that this lodge had bags of atmosphere in comparison to other accommodation @ cradle.

a thoroughly enjoyable place to get up close and personal to the wilder parts of Tasmania. The lodge was comfortable and well run; the service, meals and cabins were entirely to our satisfaction. Wonderful walks and encounters with wombats, tasmanian devils and other strange creatures. We found the shuttle arrangements to get into the park mystifying. You could catch the shuttle into the park at the lodge gate, but the shulltle coming back wouldn't stop and instead dropped you off at the Park Centre a mile away. Or the other way round. Head scratching stuff. Take the opportunity to visit the Wilderness Gallery located at the hotel up the road just past the Park Centre, which features wild life photography to take your breath away.

enjoyed the location of this hotel..the pencil pine cabins were reasonably comfortable although perhaps one should have the choice as to whether to watch t v or not ? the gas fire kept us warm but at two in the morning we had had enough of the constant flickering
the onsite restaurant was probably the best we visited in tasmania with the pepperberry steak and the bombe alaska being out of this world..staff in restaurant were also outstanding...all in all a wonderful place to stay

Staff - were friendly and helpful.
Location - perfect for the walks we wanted to do.
Accomodation - Stayed in a Pencil Pine cabin about a couple of minutes walk to the lodge which was great for having a drink with dinner.
Food - The tavern food was as you'd expect from a tavern and the restaurant served a beautiful dinner. The breakfasts were spectacular and the snow covered view and roaring fires made it all even better.

Spent the last weekend of August for four days at Cradle Mountain in one of the King Billy Suites, due to unexpected snow falls it was lovely and white. It snowed Friday night as we were leaving the restaurant it was gorgeous. The Suite is lovely and they cater for everything that you would need. The Highland Restaurant has excellent food, we ate both Friday and Sunday night and were very satisfied, I end up having the Eye Fillet both nights, deserts are very creative and delicious. Breakfast does get a little boring being the same each day but otherwise it is enough to last most of the day. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We had the welcome from the local wildlife of the wallabies, birds and the nightly possum in for their apple or two. It kept us entertained with no TV, internet or mobile, it did take a day or so to accept the peace and quiet. It's a beautiful place to a few days of relaxation...
