“Luxury in the raw beauty of Tasmania”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

A fantastic place to stay right on the edge of the National Park. The fires and warmth in the rooms contrasted beautifully with the cold wind outside and immediately gave the feeling of comfort and luxury. We were lucky enough to have the room overlooking the lake and well worth the extra to have this beautiful veranda to sit on and feel the cool mountain air and witness the different colours of the landscape then retreat inside to a beautiful warm room and comfy bed. The food was excellent in the restaurants and the staff very friendly. I would love to stay here again one day and explore the National Park and Lake St Clair more.

Room Tip: Room with view always worth the extra cost foe a memorable holiday. remember to pack some bathers i...

My three adult children and I had a magnificent four days at the lodge. We were well catered for in a Spa Deluxe cabin and thoroughly enjoyed the canapés and port complimentary to this room type - the visiting wombats and wallabies were a delight at sunset. The staff were reasonably helpful - perhaps if some could learn to explain things a bit better by taking the time to experience some of the delights firsthand and they would be more helpful. Food was great - both restaurant and Tavern provided all our needs and shop was handy also. Activities both free and paid for were well organised and good value for money. Fabulous long weekend.

My husband i stayed here for one night last week. The only disappointment i can say is that I wish we stayed longer! I have already been recommending this place to friends and family. We have travelled through many areas of Australia and some places in Europe... and feel that this place was right up there as one of the best experiences we have had. I believe it is value for money here, the cabin we stayed in was lovely with the most amazing view, the buffet breakfast which was included was delicious and the staff were so friendly and helpful. We had a late afternoon snack at the tavern (coffee and biscuits plus beer and flatbread with three dips.) The flatbread with dips is worth mentioning as a recommendation - reasonably priced and a nice big serving. We returned to the tavern for dinner and were so impressed. Prices were very good. I had the cradle burger which was delicious. My husband had the salmon which he really enjoyed. We shared the pudding which was very nice too.
We went on many of the walks and really enjoyed them. At about 8pm we were lucky enough to see about ten wombats feeding on the grass. Quite an experience! Also saw an echidna the next day...and a snake!
I have read some reviews complaining about there being no tv. I am not too sure why anyone would think that to be honest - the scenery and experience far outweighs the need to be indoors watching television!! Perhaps go to bed early and wake early - ready for a refreshing walk!!
We will definitely be back........ even if it is a long way from where we live in Western Australia!! This was our favourite place in Tasmania!!!

Likes: The room was lovely, comfty bed, very nicely furnished and a good size, small deck area, kitchen area, wet area to hang up your hiking gear, huge bathroom with shower and spa (looked brand new), bathroom goodies like soaps, shampoos etc kit was good quality and kitchenb had a good supply of filter coffee, variety of tea, hot chocolate and freshly baked choc chip cookies to munch on. Room deal included free port, turn down service, canapes on arrival and chocolates. Was great! :) very quiet and very relaxing. Buffet breakfast included in room rate was top quality and very tasty.

Dislikes: Nothing, only that it was too hot to like the fire :)

Stayed here for (unfortunately) only one night after a hard cycle from Rosebery. Happily arrived to find we had been upgraded to a King Billy suite. Amazing room with a huge bathroom with spa bath - initially no hot water but quickly remedied after a phone call to reception - within minutes a staff member arrived (with a complimetary plate of canapies) to let us know a wallaby had accidentally switched it off! The hot tub on the deck was fantastic - very private and piping hot, soothed the aching muscles no end! We were lucky enough to see a platypus swimming in the pool outside the lodge, then enjoyed the free 'enchanted forest' walk with a very informative guide on local fauna, before dinner. Dinner was exceptional, as was the breakfast buffet. Highlight was relaxing in the hot tub after dinner and being visited by a very friendly brush tailed possum! He hung around our veranda for ages and even let us gently stroke his fur!! Unforgettable experience.

We only had one night to stay here but it was bliss. The staff were friendly and helpful and we were upgraded to a spa room which was gorgeous.
One thing we really liked about this hotel was that they didn't use their remote location to force people to eat in their expensive restaurant. There is a cheerful pub with amazing views which provides some delicious alternatives.
Would definitely stay here again.
