“Excellent location”
Reviewed November 6, 2012 via mobile

This is the perfect location for exploring cradle mountain national park. There are a few short walks around the lodge which are easy and beautiful. The shuttle to the walking tracks at dove lake is a short and easy drive down the road. Our spa cabin was very homely and the delivery of canapés in the afternoon was a welcome surprise after a day on the mountain. Staff were friendly and the food was great. The breakfast was the best hotel breakfast we've had.

The property is located right at the entrance to the national park and is the starting/ending points for several walking trails. It's nice to walk around the hotel as you will be able to spot the resident wombats, wallabies, and platypus in the pond. The pencil pine room is also quite cosy, within our expectation of what a lodge would offer.

However, what I feel was lacking is the hospitality of the staff. I felt the service to be rather cold across the whole hotel - front desk, restaurants, house keeping. We were also not very impressed with the food be it the buffet breakfast or the dinner. We've had better food in Tasmania.

We stayed at Peppers Cradle Mountain to do the famous Cradle Mountain walk, you know commune with nature and all that stuff. I just wasn't expecting too much from a captive market, but I was pleasantly surprised
The spa is really good, the pencil pine cabin is excellent just what we needed, it looks a bit ordinary from the outside but on the inside its very comfortable.
The restaurant is surprisingly really good, we had a great 3 course meal, any restaurant in Melbourne would be proud of. A nice touch was that we got to check out the wine cellar to choose our wine. While we ate we watched so much wildlife we got a bit blasé about it all, oh, there's another wallaby and a wombat, oh, and a big Kangaroo, and look at the bird chasing the Wallaby.
The little walks around the hotel are excellent too.
What a great place, highly recommended.

We upgraded to a spa cabin #75. The lodge has a main rustic building that houses reception, the Highland Restaurant and a bar. The cabins are paired off along winding private roads in the bush. The cabin itself looked quite traditional but rustic on the outside but was well set out inside with a roaring fire and a kitchenette and spa bath room. There is no TV but you can sit on a small balcony overlooking the bush in the direction of the King Billy Walking Track.
Canapes were served up although the only disconcerting thing was that staff let themselves in to provide the canapes without invitation.
The lodge is the starting point for a varied number of hikes and they also conduct a wide array of guided walks and other day trips to enhance the overall experience.
Breakfast is served in the restaraunt and is a substantial buffet with an extensive hot breakfast, fruits, yoghurt, bakery selections and some unique touches.
Overall it was an excellent experience however it is extremely expensive for what you get only made more affordable because we had a voucher from friends towards the total cost. Otherwise one nights accommodation and a three course dinner for two would have cost in excess of $500. To rub salt into the wound the hotel has the audacity to charge a 2% surcharge when paying by credit card. This is nothing short of a rip off given you have no other way to pay for your accommodation but these were the only negatives of our stay.

Staying in the King Billy suite was a highlight of our Tassie trip. An amazing hot tub on the verandah and a beautiful log fire in the room is such a wonderful way to relax on the cool nights. The suite is decorated like something straight out of a magazine and the finishing touches such as bathrobes, turn down service and cheese and port delivered each night makes you feel like a millionaire. The room is quite pricey but we allocated this part of our trip as the luxury accommodation and we were not disappointed. We travelled with our 2 year old and were really comfortable. The restaurant accommodated us and were really accepting of our little one. Oh yeah, the food was amazing!
I have heard mixed reviews from friends that have stayed in some of the other accommodation types but you will not be disappointed if you stay in King Billy!

We came for a romantic 3 night stay and it was my first time visiting the national park so I had high expectations. I was not disappointed! The rooms are so lovely and luxurious - beautiful gas fireplace, iPod docks and speakers, comfortable bed, huge windows and patio space. The rooms are done up in a sleek and modern style but with ultimate comfort in mind.

The buffet breakfast is overwhelming in its selection: every imaginable breakfast food option including cereals, nuts, fruits, pastries, hot and cold items, cheeses, coffees and teas. It is the perfect start to a long day of hiking along the many trails leaving right from the lodge. We even did a little shopping at the cute gift shop.

The lodge includes a spa. We chose a floral exfoliating bath program which included an hour in a personal pool in a room with floor to ceiling glass windows overlooking the mountains. What luxury!

Overall we were very satisfied with our stay, though it was very pricey. Also, the dinner options at the lodge are limited: either an overpriced fancier restaurant or a very casual pub-style eatery.

We decided to journey up to Cradle Mountain and booked Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge for our stay.

We booked a Spa Suite for $400 a night. To say we were disappointed was unfortunately true.

The room was tired, the bed was hard and lopsided, the pillows were passed there used by date and the slate floor in the bathroom was flaking and easily cut bare feet.

The spa, was a bath tub. Nothing special or romantic in this!

The resort is in need of some TLC to live up to the Pepper's reputation.

Breakfast was shocking. The eggs appeared to be watery and stretched as far as possible with out losing the complete identity of actually being eggs. Coffee was burnt. Need I go on?

The staff were however very pleasant and what you would expect from Pepper's. It is a shame that they are working with a tired product.

Our recommendation is to stay off the mountain.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your recent stay.

I invite you to contact me directly as all our Spa Suites have corner spa baths rather than bath tub spas, also none of our bathrooms tiles are flaking. We are not aware of any "lopsided" beds so I look forward to hearing from you so I can check this.

I will discuss the breakfast with our Executive Chef however we regularly receive wonderful feedback concerning our breakfasts.

Thank you for your positive comments concerning the team.

I apologize for any disappointment you experienced during your stay and again encourage you to make contact, my email address is leigh.reid@peppers.com.au or phone number is 03 6492 2100.

Kind Regards
