Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge
Reviewed October 5, 2012

My heart sank when I realised Peppers had taken over one of my favorite places, Cradle Mountain Lodge. Our experience with the Peppers brand is one of indifference to guests, an uncomfortable feeling you are there to have as many $ extracted as possible and most of all, a distinct lack of attention to detail. Sadly, this is all creeping in at CML. Of course it is still a wonderful experience and the walks and animals are magical but there is the reality at every turn they are here to make money. It is ridiculously expensive to eat and drink in the tavern and the tours are a total have. There is nothing horribly wrong but the little touches which made it special are missing. I have seen CML through ownership of P and O and Voyages and I hope it keeps in mind what made it great and bought us all there in the first place.

Room Tip: Ask for a cabin away from others. Save up for a King Billy.

Extremely disappointing standard of accommodation. Shabby, tired and so not up to the standard expected of a Peppers resort. Would not recommend anyone to stay here. Any ambience or view was obscured by parked coaches.

Room Tip: Don't stay here

What a lovely place. When we arrived and walked into our room there was a special feeling about it. The gas log fire was on, the room was warm and welcoming. The view from our window was so nice, we could see moss covered trees and ferns. There was no TV and the radio had no reception but that did not matter. It did have a CD player.
I went down to the main house where the reception, bar, restauraunt and lounge is. The bar had a nice log fire and you could order meals to take back to your room. Which we did. We had a great nights sleep and in the morning went for a nice walk around the bush. Lots of Paddymelons they are a small marsupial, so cute. The only diappointment was that it did not snow.

Was a wonderful experience, not to mention that we were given an upgrade ... spa and fiire ... with a free decanter of very nice port. The animals come right up to your door waiting to be fed. The lodge is nice as are the rooms, but a bit 'tired' in some places. Now that Peppers have taken it over they might start to upgrade it a bit. The food in the a la carte restaurant was amazing, devine actually and good service. Walking around the trails is beautiful and so much moss on the rocks and trees adds to that rainforest feel. Visiting Dove Lake and the Cradle is just beautiful .. wish we had more time to spend on the walking tracks ...next time.

The most memorable things about our stay were the great setting among bush and rushing streams, excellent service by all the staff and seeing a variety of wildlife. We had three days of fine weather to hike the National Park. The fourth was rainy. The limited options at the Lodge made us realise how different four days of wet weather would have been. In spite of being there in the middle of winter, keeping the cabin cosy was no problem. The breakfasts are excellent, but vegetarian food is not well catered for in the main restaurant.

Room Tip: We enjoyed the privacy of the spa cabin

Thank you for an absolutely wonderful weekend away, can't wait to come back!
This was our first, of hopefully many visits to Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge.
Loved everything about our stay at your awesome venue.
The children loved to see the animals and we all enjoyed the King Billy walk and the Enchanted walk. Hope to spend more next on our next visit and fit in some more walks, especially the Dove Lake walk.
Thank you all so very much,

We stayed 08 September for our wedding anniversary and decided to treat ourselves to the King Billy suite. As a travel agent i like to explore what our home state has to offer and don't mind paying top dollar if it is good. I have never in all my travels been as disappointed as I was coming home from Cradle Mountain Lodge. In our package we were to get Canape's and yes we did...all 3 of them. As in another review below our Hot tub was too hot and you couldn't even get in it. My husband turned it off overnight thinking it would be right in the morning but once again was dangerously hot so we couldn't use it and that is why we booked that particular cabin.
Our friends booked just a normal cabin for half the price and knowing what i know now would have saved my money. Upon checkout we spoke with the young chap (as my husband and I are not ones who like to complain) and told him about it but were just apologized to and fobbed off....@ $570 per night i would have liked to think that we would have been offered maybe a discount or a voucher to another Peppers resort as we travel around the State a lot but no mention of nothing. As i am in the same industry I know its the small things like this that keep people happy and the first time ever i have felt the need to write a review.
On positive note was that we dined at the Tavern and the food was a good price and staff friendly.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your recent stay, I am sorry you were disappointed with some aspects of your stay.

I apologize that the hot tub was too hot for you, our hot tubs are set between 36 - 38 degrees and we can adjust them for you should the need arise. I encourage you for next time to let us know at the time so we can fix the matter whilst you are here.

We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge again soon.
