“So much fun”

Cradle Country Adventures
Reviewed April 2, 2013

It was raining, and it was cold, but it didn't matter. We were picked up at the hotel and driven a few minutes down the road. We were given all the gear we needed to ride, pants, jackets, boots, gloves, helmets. Dallas gave us the safety speech, a few cautionary tales and plenty of humour. We had no experience, but they were pretty easy to ride. Plenty of bumps and puddles in the road to make it fun, but not too scary for novices. It really was exhilarating.

Our family of 4 - two boys aged 8 & 9 - had a wonderful experience at Cradle Mountain Tasmania. With helpful and humorous commentary and advice from Dallas we had a great ride through the beautiful countryside near Cradle Mountain. The ride was moderately testing and ideal for our whole group.

My self and 2 of my close friends stayed one night with Cradle country Adventures, trail riding and quad bike riding. Our host Ray was very knowledgable and catered to each of our riding abilities. Had a great time, will be going back to do it all again soon!

It is hard to know where to start: Ray, Laura, Michelle, JB, Coralee and Dallas were wonderful hosts and we were treated more like family than guests. Six of us stayed for three days in the "shearers quarters" with a shared bathroom. The accommodation is basic but clean and comfortable. Over communal meals we shared the days experiences and patted ourselves on the back that there were no "unauthorised dismounts". Each day of horse riding show-cased different Tasmanian terrain - forest, beach and mountain. There was a horse for everyone from beginner to advanced and Ray made sure that each guest had the best day possible. He kept saying, "It is your holiday, what do you want to do?" The horses are in fabulous condition and we would wake each day to hear them grazing outside the door. We had new years around a fire and saw wombats, birds and paddy melons. There is no telephone reception, which I considered wonderful. We visited glow worm caves, the raspberry farm and Ashgrove cheese factory which are all located close to Cradle Country Adventures. Two of our group went caving for a day and Ray and Dallas helped make it happen. It was a wonderful relaxing and yet exciting holiday. I recommend CRADLE COUNTRY ADVENTURES if you want a truly Australian experience enhanced by a truly genuine and generous Australian host.

Fabulous riding for our group of 6 riders over 3 days starting with our first ever sighting of platypus in the wild while swimming at Mersey River on the property then an amazing beach ride out at Narawantapu National Park with galloping wombats keeping us entertained, then onto Cradle Mountain where we were blessed with beautiful clear skies for a a stunning view of Cradle Mountain and Little Horn on our way down to the creek for lunch on our sure-footed, trusting steeds (Thanks Big Sid!)

Great to see such happy and healthy horses enjoying their trailriding as much as the riders and to enjoy the warmth, humour and good tucker offered to us by our hosts Ray and Laura, and Dallas the Cowboy who told us some great yarns about many things along the way.

Many Thanks for letting us share your wonderful part of the Apple Isle, so beautiful.
