This is an example of squandered potential. Brilliant location, infra-structure is good - accommodation, dining area etc fine. Service poor, food very poor - care factor low. For the price and for Tasmania's tourist image it is just not good enough. We booked a spa suite with a lake view and the accommodation itself was OK. There needs to be some more hanging space for wet weather gear given a lot of people come here to walk. But it was OK.
The problems start on arrival. Because there was a group (15) booked in for dinner receptionist went to great lengths to send us away!? As it happens the meal we drove to at Derwent Bridge Hotel was excellent. Refusing to be sent away the second night we had "dinner" at the Lodge. Because there was a tour group (15) booked in the dinner menu was unavailable and a "lunch" type menu (burgers, chips etc) substituted. This is pathetic. After a very mediocre breakfast the next morning we joined the line of complaining guests. The place needs a management makeover and is currently bad for Tasmania's tourist image. No one there seems to care.More
