“Nice cosy place with HUGE rooms”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 18, 2012 via mobile

Excellent modern hotel on top of a restaurant in the centre of burnie. Rooms are huge, just to give you a fair indication, I have stayed in motel rooms the size of the bathroom!! Newly renovated, clean, quiet... Perfect place for a business visit. Nice cafe across the road where you can have breakfast and bill it onto your room. Cheapest mini bar I have ever encountered in Australia. The hotel is above a restaurant which sells great food. This will become my base in burnie for future visits.

My husband and I stayed at the Ikon Hotel for one night on Sunday. We were warmly greated by Tracy and given the guided tour to our upstairs room on the 1st Floor.
The room was huge. We had a lovely sitting area with beautiful leather chairs, a heater and TV, a large bathroom with double shower with excellent water pressure, soft white towels, lovely toiletries, a stocked kitchenette area with table and chairs, large assortment of tea's n coffee's and continental breakfast supplies. The bedroom area with a king size Tempur bed. (so comfortable!!) another TV so you can snuggle and watch in bed. It was absolute luxury throughout.

There is a secure car park just across the road which saves the worry of finding parking and your car's safety.

The Hotel is in an excellent location in the centre of town within walking distance to shops, resturants, movie theatre, and the beach. There is even a resturant down stairs which is open for Lunch and Dinner. We had a lovely lunch there and found it to be good value with friendly service.

I was concerned about the traffic noise especially as we live on a semi rural property and wake to the sounds of frogs and birds. I mentioned this to Tracy after reading the previous Tripadvisor review. All the rooms have now had additional sound proofing treatment and we were not disturbed by any traffic noise.

The windows in our room had the timber venetian blinds which did littlle to stop the street lighting outside. The room was light enough that you didnt need to turn lights on to navigate your way to the bathroom. This did little to ensure a good nights sleep. Hopefully they will be fixing this soon.

My only suggestion would be request a room that already has the Block out blinds fitted.

We would certainly stay at the Ikon Hotel next time we come to Burnie

I feel bad for submitting a partially negative review, so first the good stuff (and there's a LOT of good stuff). Management is lovely and very friendly, and the facilities are top-notch.

Huge rooms, beautiful leather furniture and a king size Tempur bed...absolute luxury throughout. The bathroom - we had a double-shower bathroom and the water pressure was excellent - comes supplied with yummy honey-scented bath products.

The lighting and all appliances are sleek and super-modern and the room lights are controlled by touch panels. It's kind of Vogue meets Star Trek; absolutely tasteful and absolutely cutting-edge.

The hotel offers a secure car park but the door had been in an accident that day, disabling access. We had to park behind the Bottle Shop, but Management arranged for the cars in that area to be locked behind gates overnight, which was a very thoughtful touch given that they were obviously having to extemporize an alternative at short notice.

This attention to detail is obvious throughout. Management have thought of everything, including filling the fridge with goodies that are charged out at Bottle-shop prices rather than the usual exorbitant rates you'd normally encounter. There's plunger coffee available, and the selection of teas is excellent.

This is why it came as such a surprise to find that the windows, which in our room were right above the main street, weren't double-glazed, and the stylish timber venetian blinds (which looked so lovely during the day) turned out to be absolutely ineffective against the street light right outside our window and literally level with it. The room was so brightly lit that I could identify everything on the table across the other side of the room and count the coat hangers in the wardrobe opposite. It is literally brighter at night than it is during the day with the lights off.

During the day the general ambient noise meant that traffic sounds weren't really noticeable, but we really noticed it after we came back to the hotel after dinner. Every single car that drove by was as loud as if we were at street level...and then about 9.30pm, the hoons started in. Screaming up the street, squealing around the corner... at well after midnight we were both still wide awake. I finally got to sleep sometime after 2.30am, from which point I micronapped until I had to get up at 6.30am; my husband got even less sleep and was dead on his feet the next day.

Given that we live on a busy street in a light industrial area, we're both used to road noise and normally sleep through it quite easily, but even after we put earplugs in (never leave home without 'em!) we couldn't block the noise. The room desperately needs double-glazing and some heavy drapes to block the noise and light. I'm not sure whether we'd have been able to sleep through the noise if the room had been darker, but I am certain that the ambient light wasn't helping.

We stayed in Room 8, and would advise people to avoid that room until the noise/light situation is fixed - which I'm sure it will be, because the Management clearly take genuine pride in the work that's being done there, and renovations are still ongoing throughout.

Until it's resolved though, it would pay to specifically request a room that doesn't have those noise/light issues, or at least avoid Room 8 - because let's face it, it doesn't matter how wonderful the facilities are, the primary purpose of a hotel room is to give you somewhere to sleep. If the best you can get is 4 hours of micro-naps and are starting the day exhausted, it's not meeting that obligation.

Thank you for pointing out these important issues. We have since rectified the issues with the light on the street at window level with Council. We are also having windows at this level double glazed throughout the hotel. The blind issue is currently under investigation, however with the glazing and the street light outside this point may become mute. Light is an important issue - so we will evaluate the other outcomes first, and then look at alternatives with window furnishings so we can find the best solution. We are not a light industrial suburb - we are CBD with a street level noise after hours with vehicles etc - an uncontrollable tangible. We have tried to minimise this throughout the hotel to the best of our ability. We take great pride in our service, and value our guest feedback to constantly improve our services/facilities .. so thank you again!

We stayed here for two nights and loved it. We were met by the manager and shown to our room which was amazing, so modern and elegant, you could want for nothing and it was absolutely huge. The location was fantastic right in the centre of town and a short walk to everything, shops, beach and eating. We would recommend this Hotel to everyone.

I recently stayed in this new property for 1 night and it was a delight. I was met by the Manager on a Sunday afternoon and shown to my room. The hotel rooms are enormous! I had a corner room with bay window, balcony, sitting area, kitchenette and a bathroom with a spa - the bathroom was big enough to put the kingsize bed into. Everything is brand new and the decor is modern with a hint of 1930's posters and massive guilted mirrors leaning against the walls in the rooms. I come up to the North West Coast regularly with work, I happily stay here again and would definitely recommend. There is also a restaurant on the ground floor for lunch and dinner and a nice little cafe over the road for breakie - with good coffee.

I booked the hotel for two of our Senior Managers. Tracey was amazing she called to let me know that it was a 'locked' hotel and that she would be there to personally greet my guests, we chatted on the phone for ages. My Managers comments were " Best hotel he has ever stayed in" and he travels alot, Tracey even followed up after they checked out! Oh yes and apparently the beds are to die for :) - Felicity Statewide Bearings
