“Absolutely a must see!!!!”

Can't recommend it more highly. Lots of hands on experiences for all such as panning for 'gold' writing with a quill pen, talking on real phones and making big things move! You can actually touch most of the items on display. No rope barriers in this place!! Admission prices are very reasonable too and well worth the money.

Hi tassie t

Thank you very much for your kind words. We pride ourselves on being a centre where you can get your hands on most of the exhibits and it's a real credit to Sharon, Catherine plus all staff and volunteers - without them we'd be poorer for it. Please feel free to remind our Southern cousins about the centre and we look forward to seeing you in the future.

Kind regards, The Beaconsfield Mine and Heritage Centre team

“An unexpected gem”
Reviewed April 27, 2013 via mobile

After 2.5 hours we had to drag our 5&7 year olds away so we could eat! We had no particular interest in mining so were pleasantly surprised by this fantastic museum. The kids couldn't believe that they were invited to touch everything, even to play an old pipe organ and write with an inkwell. The story of the accident was quite moving, but the kids enjoyed learning about machinery and playing with the kind of exhibits usually behind glass. (The 5 yo was a little scared by the holographic mining explosions but the 7yo loved them). They also had top fun on the animal treasure hunt, which helped them actually look at exhibits in closer detail, I think.

Hi Backyardexplorers

It's great to hear that yourselves and the children had a wonderful time. Our museum curator Catherine and the team have turned what used to be hands-off exhibits into something much more fun and interactive. If we can entertain a 5 and 7 year old for over 2 hours we're definitely doing something right. Thank you very much for your comments.

Kind regards, The Beaconsfield Mine and Heritage Centre team

“Quite thought-provoking”
Reviewed April 16, 2013

There were two parts to this centre that really grabbed my attention.
Firstly, there was the exhibition relating to the collapse of the Beaconsfield Gold Mine in 2006 and its eventual closure. This is a heart-wrenching story which makes you think twice about your own life and how blessed you are.
Then there's the collection of historical mine artifacts and the mine ruins - quite fascinating. It also showed York Town in the early 1800's and how people lived then. We really enjoyed it.
Highly-recommended.

“Well presented and really interesting mining museum”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

Very nicely presented and informative museum: lots of different displays and with a blow-by-blow account of the 21st century mining accident, caused by a minor earthquake. Lovely staff in the museum shop - and Beaconsfield itself is a pleasant, typical country town.
