The cottage is a very pleasant, short walk from the centre of Hill End. A very comfortable and cosy place to come back to after a day of outdoor painting, getting dusty and dirty in Golden Gully. Settling down in front of the fire with a wonderful glass of rose thoughtfully provided by the owners...a perfect end to a perfect day.
The pantry and fridge provisions were very generous but you do need to come prepared as the local shop has only the most basic stuff. The coffee is good and the cakes home made. Do your shopping in Mudgee or Bathurst before arriving in this rather isolated but enchanting town. This cottage is the best accommodation I have ever had here and I'm planning more stays in the future.
The Guesthouse is an easy 10-15 minute walk into town, set in bushland, with a large garden around the property, where kangaroos often come to graze. The cottage is the most well-provisioned we have ever experienced, which is handy, as the local store doesn’t have a huge stock. The whole cottage provides a comfortable stay, with every need provided by the thoughtful owners. This was our second visit, which speaks for itself. We found the outdoor furniture perfect for a cuppa in the afternoon, and the beanbag chairs were just right for reclining to watch the night sky. We went gold panning and did various bush walks in the area, taking in the historic nature of Hill End.
The owners have paid attention to detail in this delightful cottage. As well as basics like milk and bread, there are also DVDs, a couple of options for music, an umbrella in the cupboard - so many signs that they care about their guests. The location is perfect for a peaceful, restorative break. We felt very welcome when we arrived, and were sorry to leave!
All you could need is provided including a basic food package.
Beds are comfy and over all the house is well presented.
Would recommend without hesitation.
My husband and I enjoyed Hill End Guesthouse for a short 3 night break in January 2018. Our hosts, Cara and Casey, were very organised and informative, and even had the air-con running to cool the house upon our arrival.
The cottage is located down a short side lane off a charming tree-lined road, and an easy walk into the centre of town, which we did daily. The lane is also an arboretum of sorts, with the tree all having species labels, which we found useful. It is located on the edge of town and is amazingly peaceful, which was exactly what we wanted for our stay.
The cottage itself is very comfortably furnished, with two bedrooms, a shared bathroom (no bath), laundry (equippedwith a washing machine and detergent), and a combined kitchen, lounge, dining room. The kitchen is well equipped, including a dishwasher, cooktop and oven, fridge, and the hosts provide the useful basics such as milk, bread, spreads, sugar etc. Free wi-fi is also provided.
The hosts also provide plenty of information on things to do and see in the area. We occupied two full days without wandering too far from the town, including walks, local lookouts and museums.
We enjoyed an evening drink in the spacious garden, which we shared with a group of eastern grey kangaroos, who tolerated us so long as we didn’t look like we wanted to come too close. I also really enjoyed watching the birdlife, particularly the wrens, bouncing around the trees. Some fallow deer also passed through the yard during our stay.
Hill End Guesthouse presented exactly as it is pictured and was a perfect little getaway for our stay.
This place is absolutely stunning and the photos don't do it justice - it's even better in real life. Very well equipped, high quality furniture and lovingly decorated. We loved sitting on the veranda, watching the roos and birds. A great place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. What a shame it was too hot to lite the fire place, will have to come back in winter :)
Recently spent six nights at the Guesthouse and found it comfortable, well appointed and in an ideal location. A fantastic base from which to explore the wonderful delights of Hill End.
