Great sized room, friendly service. Very close to everything.
The room possibly needs a bit more colour - just a cosmetic comment. The pub is fun and the locals very friendly. Big thanks to Rowena for looking after our pillows! Enjoyed our dinner too!

We stayed in one of the motel rooms on a Friday night. The room was clean and comfortable and everything worked. The bar in the pub is friendly and busy with a cross-section of locals, miners and travellers. Their restaurant has the usual range of pub bistro meals and is good value. As another reviewer has noted, the beer garden can get very noisy, but this is the country and they tend to close down around 10pm so not a big deal in my view. The hotel is located in the older part of Gulgong which is wonderfully well preserved from its gold-mining heyday. There is a large supermarket just across the street and Gulgong has plenty of eating and drinking options.

This was an ok room and had most of what we needed. Beds were comfortable and there was plenty of hot water. The cooking facilities were a bonus for breakfast. Food in the hotel dining room was excellent and the location can't be beaten. There is good off street parking.

We made the mistake of staying on a Saturday night, thinking that the motel rooms at the back wouldn't be too noisy, but some very annoying and loud drunks kept me awake until very late. Despite asking for a room as far as possible from the beer garden, the room we had was quite close anyway. You wouldn't be able to escape the noise. However, we were also there Sunday night and had a good sleep.

Internet does not work in the rooms. We had to go to the hotel dining room for basic wifi access which was less than ideal.

The sliding shower screen door was very dodgy and fell off a few times!

I loved Gulgong, but would choose the other hotel/motel next time as it genuinely has rooms a long way from the pub.

Room Tip: Don't go there on a Saturday night if you're not into partying.. and Friday is probably not...

Thank you for your positive feedback regarding our food, quality of service as well as our facilities.

We acknowledge your comments on noise levels over a busy weekend in Gulgong as we are a hotel but we do believe the accommodations in our 3 1/2 star style rooms to be of higher standard then regular pub accommodation.

We do also offer serviced house accommodation for long or short terms stays for couples or groups bookings that is secluded from normal hotel activities but still very central to Gulgong's CBD. Our houses are not available through our online booking system.

From time to time IT issues do arrise and we do endevour to resolve these issues as soon as possible.

Thanks for alerting me to the shower screen problem, procedures have now been put in place for faster resolutions on maintenance.

Thanks again for your feedback, it allows us to improve and make for better experiences for everyone.

We needed accommodation for a team attending a country field day and the towns nearest the venue were all booked out. On contacting the Prince of Wales they said they had a cottage that was not on their website and maybe that would do.
DO? - it was great!!
Once a small shop adjacent to the pub, this cottage has been renovated into accommodation for 4 people, 1 Double room, 1 with 2 single beds and a bed in an annexe near the laundry. Though very cold outside the aircon made short work of heating the interior, which was warm and welcoming. A spacious Lounge area with flat screen TV and X Box a kitchen with all appliances and well stocked with tea, coffee, milk etc., With the temperature as it was we did not try the outdoor BBQ and sitting area, but opted for a meal in the Pub, good food, generous serves and despite a busy night, not a long delay. Would we stay another time, most definitely and would we recommend it, again, most definitely. Very homely and quite a treat in this interesting town.

Stayed here during a visit out west for work, was looking for something around the Mudgee area. Stumbled across the prince of Wales whilst searching over the Internet. My room was a bargain at $45 (compared to the cheapest $110 at Mudgee) and was a decent size for a single person with a very comfy bed. The pub itself has a great atmosphere and lovely, friendly staff, what you expect from the country.

There was off street parking, and I found the separate amenities block meant no noisy pipes during the night! The bistro does a great feed, where I had one of the thickest rump steaks. The pepper sauce even has peppercorns, not just cracked pepper in gravy... And they actually know the meaning of 'medium'. There is a jukebox, keno, and a pool table with cue room. Best of all, there are more beers on tap than pokies!!

My only neutral comment is that the ladies amenities could do with an electrical outlet..

Overall though, in my books, it's the little things that count, and this little pub hits all the right notes on all those little things. Gulgong is a lovely little town, worth spending more time in then the five minute drive through on your journey in or out of central west.

At first I thought it wasn't very nice...but this place grew on me. I have great memories of eating our breakfast on the patio every morning. We had a fridge and cups, silverware and bowls, so we went to the grocery store across the street and stocked up on breakfast food.
It was a bit of a drive to go to Mudgee, but this place was inexpensive (compared to Mudgee). Not fancy (at all) but clean and pleasant.

We stayed here for one night on our vacation to Australia. After a long drive through the countryside, this was a wonderful experience all around. We booked online and stayed in the motel units in the back, we had stand-alone building for a room. Air conditioner was strong, bed was comfortable, and the room was clean. We ate both lunch and dinner at the pub at the hotel. Lunch was hamburgers for us, which were quite good. For dinner, we had a Moroccan chicken salad and a mustard chicken entree (both on the special board). One of us has a gluten allergy, it wasn't a problem for the kitchen staff. Servings were large and the quality was outstanding. After dinner, a few beers in the pub went down nicely along with good conversation with the locals and the bartender. They don't cook breakfast, but the Butcher Shop Cafe just down the street made a very good breakfast. If you're from overseas and planning a trip to Australia, rent a car and drive through the country areas outside of the cities and coast. You've come a long way to be here, and driving through the countryside will give you a far better experience of the country than a canned bus/plane/hotel package deal. By getting away from that and driving at your own pace through New South Wales you'll find friendly people and amazing landscapes. Just make sure you go through Gulgong and visit the Prince of Wales.
