“If you are looking for paradise...look no further!”
Reviewed May 17, 2011

My husband and I were married at Hotel Lagunita in April 2011. We brought 40 friends and family members along and had the most amazing time. Lucas was the best host and wedding coordinator that anyone could ask for. The staff at Lagunita are amazing. They were all so very helpful and handled every request. Everyone that had the opportunity to come absolutely loved the hotel and the wedding.

The rooms are amazing, open air palapas. We kept the windows open the entire time and hearing the morning ocean waves crashing on the shore was magnificent. The showers and bathrooms were great. Every room is a little different. The higher numbered rooms toward the pier are newer but the views are not as good as the beach front rooms. There's something about waking up and seeing the beach right in front of your porch that's magical.

The food at the hotel is fantastic. The guacamole was to die for! Every meal we had...breakfast, lunch and dinner was perfect! The bar is excellent with excellent service....even when they were overwhelmed with requests of tequilia shots for everyone!

The days were warm and the mornings were cool. April was the most perfect weather for a wedding. Yelapa and Hotel Lagunita are low-key, amazing relaxation spots. We stayed at the hotel most days and enjoyed the beach and the pool. Some ventured into town and up to the waterfalls for a day trip. We did go to Yacht Club on Wednesday night for some dancing. Lucas arranged a water taxi to take us there and back which was perfect!

The massage services at the hotel are great. Dana and her group of therapists work magic! I would highly recommend their services.

I honestly can't say enough amazing things about Yelapa and Hotel Lagunita. We plan to go back for many years to come. If you're looking for vacation without the hustle-bustle of Puerto Vallarta and you aren't looking for the Hilton, this place is for you. I highly recommend Lucas and his hotel for a wedding. If there is any desire to do a destination wedding and you're looking for something easy and carefree, Hotel Lagunita may be for you. I am happy to talk to anyone with questions regarding Hotel Lagunita and having a wedding.

One of my most favorite quotes of the week came from my 14 year old sister-in-law on the day of the wedding. It was four hours or so before the wedding and we were all at the pool hanging out and she said "You're the most calm bride I've ever seen. You're here at the pool on your wedding day enjoying the time with your friends while most brides would be so crazy right now." Thank you Lucas for allowing that!!!!!

This was my fifth year at the Hotel.

The Lagunita is located 30-45 minutes by panga south of Puerto Vallarta in a small cove. Across the cove, separated by a wide beach, is the pueblo of Yelapa perched on the hillside. While there are no cars or roads, many sailboats, fishing charters and yachts find anchorage here.

The Lagunita is tropically charming, simple and rustic. It consists of approximately 30 thatched-roof, open-air bungalows (we prefer the higher-numbered ocean-side rooms). Also there’s an unusual pool with a great view, a massage hut and paths meandering through lush foliage. There’s a nice beach dotted with lounge chairs and hammocks next to the on-the-sand restaurant, bar and dining area – all shaded by palapas. The food is fantastic.

Visitors can spend their time relaxing on the beach, taking in the views, the happenings and the local characters (since everything and everyone travels in and out by boat). For the more ambitious there are activities: parasailing, snorkeling, fishing, horseback riding, hikes (to two waterfalls, out to The Point), or trekking into the village. Yelapa has many great restaurants including The Oasis, Café Bahia, and Pollo Bollo. The Yacht Club for dancing on a Saturday night is a must-do.

Luke and his staff are simply the best…friendly, welcoming and attentive, yet laid-back.

I love this place.

As the boat turned into the lagoon, the view of Yelapa immediately captures you. Immediately after arriving at the Hotal Lagunita Pier, hotel staff arrive to greet you and guide you to your room. The rooms were clean, airy and had spectacular views of the lagoon.
We stayed for 9 days and each day there was something new to try on their menu. The food was traditional mexican food with our favorites being the ceviche and chilequiles. The service was the best I have ever experienced. Upon our return we raved to all our friends and family. If you plan to visit Mexico, Hotel Lagunita in Yelapa is a must!

Room Tip: Any room is the best room.

My fiance and I had the most amazing stay at hotel lagunita. Our charming, little palapa was right on the beach. It was very rustic and simple - but really what more do you need in paradise? The staff was wonderful! -so nice and attentive. There were plenty of other places to eat in the village, but we found ourselves choosing to eat at the hotel's restaurant for most meals. It was so delicious and so fresh. we made use of their spa facilities as well, getting both stone therapy and massages. oh, it was so good for the soul.
On new years eve, they prepared a special party, in which we enjoyed filet mignon and mahi mahi. it was devine! after which, we sat on the beach and i proposed to my now fiance as we awaited the private fireworks show. could not have been more romantic! the hotel staff was so congratulatory and presented us with free margheritas... which are by the way, the best margheritas ever! - all fresh berries and juices. it was nice to see our engagement so well received, as we are a gay couple and never once had to feel uncomfortable or different... just very welcomed.
now, planning for our honeymoon, we are hard pressed to find a vacation that could even remotely compare to our stay in yelapa. everything was perfect.
There are less expensive places to stay in the cove, but you're probably going to be sacrificing a private toilet and shower and possibly electricity. Hotel Lagunita is by far the nicest and still SO affordable, and the hospitality unparalleled. I can't wait to return!!

I am a yoga teacher and brought a group with me to Hotel Lagunita twice now. I highly rec the resort for travelers, couples, groups. Luke and his amazing staff will help you create a wonderful retreat from the everyday. Love the open air palapas with the sound of the ocean right outside your door. Love the food, and great visits to town a walk away. Enjoy the beach and estuary that is filled with birds and you can also hike up river to amazing waterfalls.

My husband and I got married here with 40 guests. Lucas and his staff made everyone feel so welcome and comfortable despite the rustic conditions and the few prissy girls that came along. The wedding was beautiful and more than we could have asked for on our meager budget. Lucas also arranged many activities for our guest, such as snorkeling, horseback riding, a waterfall visit and fishing. All the activities garnered rave reviews from our guests. We stayed for 8 days total and enjoyed every minute and have been wanting to go back ever since. It was so great, my parents intend to renew their vows for their 40th anniversary there in December 2013. Couple of things to note: June gets very hot, reception lighting needs to augmented to get good pictures, beachfront rooms are a little noisy because of the waves.

Room Tip: The oceanview rooms provide the most privacy.

We stayed 3 nights at Hotel Lagunita and it was PERFECT. Everything about it was so romantic... Our room was great--clean, rustic, and spacious with a breathtaking view. Luke and Dana worked so hard to make our little wedding so perfect! Everyone that sees my wedding pictures says that it looks like the perfect place to tie the knot. The restaurant next door was delicious. Yelapa is a magical town and we will absolutely be back next year. Perfect place to lay on the beach read and sip a fruity rum drink...
