better to take the longer 2 hr hike, slightly strenuous but lovely along the river and reach the cleaner, quieter, less visited cascade up valley.

The hike to the upper falls was beautiful and worth it. But be prepared to get your feet wet as you cross the river twice. At a fork after the 2nd crossing stay to the left. Then look for a horse gate with a square center and "Waterfall" etched into it. Climb through this gate for the last 1/4 mile to the falls. It took me an hour each way. PUT ON BUG SPRAY. Take your camera and water. Enjoy!

We rented donkeys and rode up to the upper falls. When we got there, there were about ten naked people. We took a dip in the water, but were not prepared with lunch so we did not stay too long.

Mostly, we just LOVED Yelapa and everything that this charming place offered. Buy yourself a piece of pie on the beach. Just do it. You will not regret it!

But the hike up through the tiny village on pathways barely wide enough for burros. Then as you reach the base of the falls it's quite beautiful and the feeling is serene. Well worth the puffing!

We really enjoyed our hike to the upper waterfalls, they were not difficult to find and a great way to spend a day. We wish we had packed a lunch to take with us so we could spend more time at the falls.
