“Paradise is not Lost!”
Reviewed March 1, 2012

Our stay at the Yelapa Oasis was unplanned and boy are we THRILLED that we ended up staying here. We had casita #5 that faces the river and you can see the bay over the lush landscape. Hostess/owner Cheryl's hospitality was beyond our experience. We felt totally at home.

The casita was roomy and super clean. The bathroom was awesome - loved showering and being able to peek out over the wall. And the bed was extremely comfortable unlike many in Mexico.

We also had a lot of meals here, not just for convenience but because the food was so darn good! The service with Roman (our favorite man in Mexico) and Whilbert was friendly and fast. having Roman bring our coffee to the casita in the morning wasn't all bad either.

I did leave a review for the food but I will say it again. Life is uncertain, eat dessert first. And make it the out of this world chocolate souffle with mango ice cream. It is heavenly.

Room Tip: Any of them but casita #5 I think has the best view.

I could have eaten every meal at Oasis. It is a wonderful spot to visit and very romantic to sit at night for dinner. It is located right on the river and it also has many little huts to stay at too. Make sure this is a place you visit if you are in Yelapa. Thank you for the morning Bloody Marias Sabastian!

Merry Christmas Sebastian & Family! Will be back November, 2012 to visit your sanctuary, enjoy your genuine hospitality, and relax over drinks and your amazing pizza! For simply meandering down a jungle path after visiting the village of Yelapa in November, 2011, and wandering into your property because it looked like somewhere special, the four of us were warmly welcomed into your lives for food, drink and peacefulness....... "my home is yours...."
This "oasis" is the essence of Yelapa - not to be missed - and to be heartwarmingly basked in while being treated to the simpler, more joyful, finer things humankind has to offer - offered and shared for the right reasons, and from an honest place.......may the Oasis shine in 2012! See you in November - we will need three nights! Lori, Mike, Susie & Luka

My partner and I just stayed one night in Casita #5, facing the river. Oasis' host and owner greeted us upon our arrival early in the afternoon. We didn't have a reservation and just walked in off the path. After an afternoon of beautiful explorations around Yelapa, we settled in for a completely delicious and decadent meal at the Oasis restaurant, a 20 second walk from our casita. The food was delicious, the setting incredibly luxurious and tropical. Bossa Nova played softly over the sound system, overlaid with a symphony of crickets and other noctural chirping birds. Ground-mounted flood lights lit up the nearby trees in the yard. The casita itself was gorgeous, open-air, made out of beautifully stained and lacquered bamboo and reeds with a thatched roof, all held together with twin and ropes and mounted on a simple concrete foundation. Our "living room" area was perfect for reclining and watching the nearby river flow by, with all of the activity of birds in and along the water, and of people crossing the nearby path to get from one side of town to the other. Sleeping in the mosquito net was wonderful - being IN the jungle, and yet safe from any unwelcomed winged visitors. As a city dweller, it was amazing to me at how noisy the natural jungle is at night, mostly with birds flying and squawking now and then. For me, I ended up using earplugs, but my partner was fine.

Our first trip to Puerto Vallarta a few years ago was actually just a stop-over. Our destination for the week was Yelapa, a 30 minute boat ride from Vallarta. We had been looking for an out-of-the-way location. We chose the Yelapa Oasis and we found exactly what we wanted.

Don't expect to be pampered, at least not in the manner you'd expect in PVR. Yelapa is a laid back, low key kind of place and the Oasis matches it perfectly. The casitas had thatched or tin roofs. The thatched "screen windows" open to the view of magnificent gardens. There are swaying palms providing shade and the beach (just across the river from the Oasis) is the perfect spot to relax, work on your tan and indulge at the beach bars.

The Oasis has a wonderful bar and restaurant. While it would be rare for them to have more than ten overnight guests, the restauant was busy with ex-pats and travellers every night. Most evenings they'd have live entertainment after dinner. When we were there a folk singer by the name of "Gabriella" was on the bill. A friend of the owners', she was the classic troubador, singing for her keep and creating a special atmosphere for guests.

The village is still sleepy... electrical power arrived about 10 years ago. They are now on the grid with high-speed Internet available in many village restaurants and accomodations but you still have the sense that this is a place where you could go and no one would find you.

For the adventurous you can go hiking to a spectacular waterfall, para sailing, horseback riding and more. For the not-so-adventurous... there is a small waterfall with a little restaurant on the edge of the village, a very interesting cemetery and that laid back beach (be sure to sample the Yelapa Pie Lady's great pies).

Yelapa is a great place to unwind and Yelapa Oasis lets you do it in style.

Room Tip: Casitas 4 & 5 are the most private.

Sunday night: sitting upstairs and listening to Ron Doering playing jazz. Looking out to the jungle, the moonlit lagoon and the gentle bay water beyond. The friendly waiter arrives with my dessert: Chocolate souffle served with a scoop of icecream. Is this heaven? Close. It's the Yelapa Oasis!!
