“Beautiful beach - pity about the access and cost of parking”

West Wittering Beach

One of the nicest beaches that we have visited with miles of sand and the sea is shallow for a very long way. The beach is very safe as it is protected by a fence of plantation that leads to the car park. The only drawback is that there is only one road that leads to the beach (car park) and this is invariably a traffic jam. The cost of parking your car is £6.00 whether you are there for an hour or all day so is very expensive for short stay. The car park itself is more or less a field and you would think that with such a high price to park, something would be done about the access.

I found the beach , the toilets and the cafe dirty. With over priced car parking charges. Not worth a visit.

This is one of the best beaches (for children and families) I've ever been to, including those in the Caribbean and Thailand.

Main Points:
- Very shallow water : 1-2ft deep for what seems to be a mile and max depth 5f
- Powder soft sand EVERYWHERE for miles
- No high rise buildings or indeed any buildings from any viewpoint
- Parking only a few feet from the beach
- Warmer water in small "pools" as sun heats water faster
- waveless when we went there last
- Families everywhere- crowded, but easy to find spac
- Bring water guns, floaties, boards, balls, etc as everyone plays

Minuses
- would seriously pay good money for a low rise resort on this site. Instead, there is basically
zero accommodation
- we thought we'd stay overnight at the adjoining campsite but it was empty when we got there and staff at the beach didn't know anything further.
- The weather is so unpredicatable- hot one second and chilly the next. Bring a sweater just in case.

Some of the "pools" left over are warmer to swim in as they are more easilly heated by the sun.

2 hour queue at 10:00am for the last 7 miles made this a misery. A 30 minute queue for ice cream wasn't much fun either.

Add another 2 hour queue to get out of the car park makes this wonderful beach an utter nightmare on hot weekends.

The only car park (£8.00) is a testament to the greed of west wittering beach estate. FAR TOO FEW ticket booths at the entrance means when you finally get within sight of the beach everything is still totally snarled up.

Not a destination for those with less patience than a saint.

Visited twice last week - whilst fantastic weather contributed to 2 wonderful days out nevertheless the location, sandy beach and great swimming out to sandy islands at low tide (watch the tide though in the channel which runs at right angles to the beach) all made for a great experience.
Shops, toilets, cafe etc all well run and the beach was very clean - just what a beach day out should be. Car park 6.50 weekday and £8 weekends. Well worth 5 stars
