“Good accommodation and excellent food.”
Reviewed May 14, 2013

Stayed for one night and it was a very pleasant experience. The name Roundabout conjured up an impression of a busy road junction but the location of this establishment is an idyllic country setting well off the beaten track. We were welcomed in a most friendly manner and this attitude was mirrored by all staff during our visit. The room was very comfortable and offered all facilities,a very efficient shower and best of all a very comfortable bed. The only detraction was the room was overheated, easily solved by opening windows! Reserved dinner in the restaurant and the choice and quality of dishes was of the highest order, probably the best I have experienced in this standard of hotel. Service was attentive and there was an adequate choice of wines, reasonably priced. The dishes are priced top end but provide good value for the quality displayed. The standard and choice of breakfast is also of very high standard. For a relaxing stay in quiet surroundings this establishment ticks all the boxes. On my list for a return visit.

I have been astounded at a couple of recent reviews of this beautiful hotel ... I have stayed in many far more expensive " award winning" restaurants and hotels and been extremely disappointed but the Roundabout offers a beautiful restaurant menu offering excellent prices (a lot of pubs are more expensive ) it is superb English cuisine with a French twist if you don't like that kind of thing then go somewhere else !!! If you don't appreciate food don't bother there is a fish and chip shop down the road we have never had a bad meal so don't let people's " opinion" put you off its a fab place to stay and eat we have family in the village and stay quite often so I am we'll placed to write this no where is perfect but this is as near as it gets ! Thanks to all the lovely staff especially the kitchen staff who work hard to keep a great standard

This is a slightly overpriced hotel that has a lot to offer (for a short stay) It is very clean and well appointed but has a sound insulation problem that can result in interrupted sleep, the room we had (called Oak) was very large and almost justified the price on that basis and was, very clean, with a huge very comfortable Queen sized bed. Give the overpriced restaurant with its boring menu a miss, the full English was mediocre (canned mushrooms, bad coffee) a vegetarian sausage seemed to be a big issue having to be requested the night before. A very good location with plenty of places to eat so don’t be put off, but more that a couple of days listening to your fellow guests every word from the next room would be tedious.

Room Tip: We were in the annex it might be better in the main hotel

My husband and I had to travel to Brighton on business at bank holiday weekend, and were delighted to come across this hotel on booking.com with what appeared to be a great deal. At the end of our day we decided to head straight to the hotel to have a drink and meal, and a quiet evening.
Unfortunately we ended up lost and at the wrong Chiltington, (note to self: be sure you really know where you are going). We decided we had better eat en-route and tried to telephone the hotel to warn them of our late arrival, and help with directions. We rang 4 times without our calls ever being answered, and after speaking to my daughter back home she sorted out a route and also tried to ring again for us, they also got no reply!. If I hadn't been concerned that we would be charged for 'no show' we would have headed towards home and slept at the first place we could get in.
When we eventually arrived there was no-one at reception, we rang the bell, no one came. We eventually found someone, the manager, in the bar but when we explained we had tried to ring he just said he had taken a booking for a meal that night so presumably it was our fault, although he did agree we had rung the right number. We were shown to a very comfortable room with a wonderfully comfortable bed, BUT oh the heat!! There was no heating on just 2 very hot pipes that ran up through the bathroom without any protection (a potential danger if caught with wet skin) but it was unbearable. The hotel must have been aware of this as there was a fan in the room. We had to have the window open and the fan on all night, and water to drink because it was so drying!
We were also unable to get any hot water, just one tap working.
Breakfast was good, lovely eggs and sausage, and the waiting staff very pleasant.
But on checkout we encountered the rude manager again, we explained about the heat and the lack of water. Evidently no one had ever complained before, people love that room(!?) and there was hot water! One tap turns on the water the other controls the temp!! shame this isn't made obvious. When he went to show us it took 3 minutes for him to get warm water coming through!! No wonder they have water shortages in the South of the country if they waste this much.
There was no apology, we were made to feel small and stupid.
Our country hotel treat turned out to be a big disappointment.

Room Tip: Avoid! But if you must, don't stay in room 1 unless it is the depths of winter! Although the wa...

Very nice hotel, lovely room, warm welcome. Breakfast could be improved (especially the coffee!!). Restaurant is aggressively priced for what it is but great to just stumble home on a rainy night. Lots of parking. Nice place to come back to in the eve. Highly recommended.

Stayed at this hotel April 5-9. Arrived at check in time and just dropped our bags in the room and headed to my brother's in Pulborough. The room was quaint and old fashioned and we thought "this is kind of cute- a quaint, English country inn". Arrived back after 10pm- no problems. This was my first opportunity to see the bathroom- 1970 was the last time this room was refurbished. It was only barely clean- dust on the top of the toilet, dirt on the top of the garbage can and an old yellowed shower curtain. We left very early in the morning for my niece's wedding. I decided that since we were spending very minimal time in the room (just for sleeping)- there was no reason to complain.
Arrived back from the wedding extremely late and tired, so being awakened by the noises of other guests vomiting was horrible and disgusting. The sound came from the bathroom and kept me up ALL night- you could also hear people walking around- opening and closing room doors etc. I understand that it's not the hotels fault that other guests were vomiting, but I shouldn't have to hear it in my room. We got up late due to the lack of sleep and didn't leave the room until 12:30. I asked the young lady at the front desk if a top sheet could be put on our bed because the duvet was too warm for me. She said - Absolutely, no problem- she would have the maid take care of that. Upon return to our room at 11pm that night- the room hadn't been made up at all, so of course- no top sheet.
If you use a blow dryer to style your hair, bring your own. The dryer in the bathroom is attached to the wall- when you take the hose attachment away from the dryer- this turns it on. I remember these dryers as the first ones that were installed in hotel rooms in the early 80's. They were tan and provided no styling ability. The one in this room was brown from age. I was disgusted to even touch it.
We should have checked out, but as I said it was just for sleeping, so we decided to stick it out. Other family members stayed at a travel lodge for a quarter of the price we paid and I am sure we would have been better off.
Don't make the same mistake we did.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else.

a great place to stay, very quiet and peaceful. Very clean, happy and attentive staff. A little bit off the beaten track but worth the effort, Tom Tom takes you right to the door. Good breakfast, great management.
