“A lovely place to stay and eat”
Reviewed November 29, 2013

My girlfriend and I arranged a night away at The Horse Guards and we absolutely loved it. The pub has a great ambience and is very quirky, which is our style! From the telephone booking onwards the service was excellent. We stayed at The Cottage, which is great for a romantic night away and I thought was a reasonable price for accommodation of this high standard in W Sussex. Our evening meal was excellent if a little on the pricey side. Breakfast was a real treat and we especially liked the locally sourced high quality produce used in their meals and the fact that details of their suppliers are on display (we followed up on the butter and cheese supplier) you really can taste the quality.
My girlfriend works for a high end B&B/Hotel and she really rates the Horse Guards. We will pay a return visit!

Visited yesterday with a friend and had a lovely lunch. Venison was excellent and leave room for the Mont Blanc pudding !'
Lovely pub atmosphere with diners ranging from young to old. Staff friendly and attentive too.
Cosy real fires made this pub very welcoming.
If you want to experience English pub food at its best then this is the place for you!!.

I dined here recently with family. I didn't think there was much choice on the menu and opted for a chicken leg, really the only thing that appealed to me. How much does a chicken leg cost??Practically nothing. Mussels were not available, replaced with some obscure fish called Wrasse? ..... No, me neither!! Although it is a pleasant environment and the staff are all very nice and helpful this is not the best pub in West Sussex. There are many more pubs with better menus and much better value for money. Giles Coren obviously loves this place but I think we all need to make up our own minds about this one and not get carried away by some pretentious foodie.

We have stayed at the inn for the night and had a lovely dinner there. The food was delicious, service excellent and the design of the pub and garden is amazing - it's stylish, fun, quirky and has a great attention to details. The little cottage where we stayed was lovely. Highly recommended.

Otis, our intrepid red Standard Poodle, my wife and myself dine at this establishment on a regular basis and we are never less than pleased.
Their attention to detail, the standard of food and ambiance that the owners create is a real testimony to the passion they have for their work.
The location in this beautiful little village is idilic and the pub itself has a chic charm and benefits from seasonal themes that are lovingly bestowed on it.
It is a real pub and the locals mix seemlessly with visiting dinners and everybody is abley hosted by the attentive owners.
The food is first class. We always go with the intention of one course and finish up having the works. The menu is irresistible.
Otis gives it his cherished four paw review (more sought after than 3 Michelin stars) and those of us with two paws give it the maximum rating across the board but book ahead because not surprisingly they get busy.

The Mrs, the mutt and me walked in today during a very bust service. We asked if they could fit us in and the gent behind the bar explained that they were very busy but that they could give us a table for an hour.

Cream of onion soup to share then a slow roast pork and rare roast beef lunch took us to foodie heaven.

Great service, amazing food, the real deal.

Our second visit to this amazing Inn where the owners have created an atmosphere of happiness and relaxation which is very hard to put into words to describe. You just have to be there to experience it. It is nothing to do with "bling" or black leather sofa's but simple homely and imaginative objects particularly in the lovely garden. When you have feasted on the garden, seen the chickens you then have an excellent eating experience where the food is of top restaurant quality. As we left, after a superb lunch, I perhaps, ill advisedly on a busy Sunday lunch time, found the kitchen and thanked the chefs! Thank you again!
