“Something interesting for all the family!”

South Downs Light Railway
Reviewed July 1, 2014

My husband has been a railway enthusiast for years and i must admit I've caught the bug too when steam train are involved so I was delighted to visit the Bluebell Line on a recent visit to Puborough. After enjoying a light lunch in the cafe bar we visited the Museum and spent ages admiring the magnificent engines in the large shed. Getting up close you begin the realise just how big and powerful they are and why they are still the inspiration for so many artists, writer and film makers. Then it was time to welcome back the latest monster steaming slowly alongside the platform.( We didn't have time to go on a trip ourselves.) Since it was term time visitors consisted mainly of elderly people or those with babies and toddlers but it was good to see a group of people, some with dementia, assisted by carers who had brought them for food and an afternoon with a difference.. Two were in wheelchairs but there was no problem wheeling them across the railway line to get maximum benefit from the site and I'm sure the sunshine and their experiences gave them as much pleasure as it did us!

Great to have the chance to ride a miniature steam train at reasonable cost. Excellent value and fun for 'children' of all ages. Lots of car parking at the adjacent garden centre which offers good food in clean and pleasant surroundings. Ordering of food was a bit slow due to insufficient staffing, but the food was delivered to table quickly once ordered, was freshly cooked and delicious. Well worth visiting the railway and well-stocked Garden Centre when in Pulborough.

Excellent Steam Trains running in a well-built Southern Railway environment around a Garden Centre. A long run with loops and a big cutting. Friendly staff and quite a cheap ride. Very good for children. Children are encouraged to take a Teddy Bear (from their large range) on the trip with them.

This cute little miniature steam railway is located within Pulborough garden Centre. Run by volunteers it's has a ultra friendly family feel. Proper miniature steam trains. Teddy bears can be borrowed to ride with children on the train, or take your own on special weekends and kids ride for free. Lots of teddy bears located around the track to keep the journey interesting as you travel around the edge of the garden centre. journey lasts 8-10mins approx. Carnet tickets good value as my children always want 2 rides!. ADULTS (4 rides £5.00) or £1 per ride. CHILDREN – £1.00 or Saver Ticket (4 rides £3.00). Closed 12:45-1:30 and after 3:30. Parking easy. Scrummy food served within the garden centre which also has nice changing facilities.
