This is an impeccably decorated/ maintained shepherds hut with deceptively more space inside than you would usually expect. Inside the Hut, you are provided with more than you would require for a weekend/ week holiday - ipad, toaster, microwave, DVD player! all very useful if you decided that you didnt want to go out and explore.
The area is dog friendly as the Hut is set within an enclosed, picket fenced area - she loved it! lots of interesting things to sniff at including the three sheep in the adjoining field!

Within the hut was a black folder with information on local farm shops, restaurants/ pubs (including menus!), instructions on how to use the BBQ (which we did despite the rain and high winds!) and walking routes close by. I don't think I should have been so surprised by the level of detail in this folder as immediately after booking, Sue, the owner, emailed very detailed instructions on where the Hut was located and how to locate it on their grounds when we got there. However, the instructions were invaluable and very helpful!
I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a retreat!

“Love little place.”
Reviewed October 27, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Great little hut with lovely log fire, really cosy and loved watching the sheep out the window. Wifi not good, poor signal and not always working. Would have been ok if warned of this prior.
Would visit again for a quiet getaway!

Management Response
Oct 28, 2015
Thanks so much for the review and feedback. We had electricians working during Miram's stay carrying out essential electrical improvements on the main house and as a result the house power was being turned on and off sporadically throughout the day. This turned the main router on and off in the house which explains the poor wifi service in the hut as it is fed from this. Apologies to the guest staying as I forgot to inform them they might loose wifi but I would like to stress that all electrical improvements are now complete.

“50th Birthday Surprise”
Reviewed September 30, 2015 for a stay in July 2015

After my partner said he has always wanted to visit Arundel Castle I decided that is what we would do for his 50th Birthday.
I went online and hunted for somewhere special to stay and after viewing numerous Shepherds Huts came upon 'Elderflower'
When we arrived I was not disappointed.
The owner showed us round to the hut, in it's own little private courtyard, away from her home and the rental cottage.
When left alone my partner said it was a wonderful place to find.

Inside is clean and well thought out with beautiful chic cushions, crockery and furniture.
The bed is comfortable and the area is quiet so we slept well.
The bathroom is a nice size, obviously not huge if that is what you are looking for, with plenty of hot water.
The shower is lovely.
There was tea bags, coffee etc on our arrival.
There is no TV which did not bother us one bit as we sat in the courtyard in the evening and watched the families sheep in the little field in front of the hut.

There is a microwave in the hut with a fridge and cooker in the adjacent barn, which also houses a small table and chairs.

I personally would have preferred a small fridge in the hut as I don't generally use a microwave but that is just so you don't have to go into the barn late night or early morning if you fancy a cup of tea.

We would definitely stay here again.

“Perfect place for a Luxury Getaway!”

I booked this stay as a surprise for my Pregnant Wife. We have stayed in shepherds huts before this one is up there with the best. The Hut is located on its own plot next door to a rental cottage the same owners have. There is ample parking and an electronic gate which is great for security. The farm shop opposite is nice but seems like a little bit of a honey trap. There is another farm shop a mile or two up the road which will have everything you need including English (local) wine and beers (which are great). The hut itself is really well thought out: Ample space inside, a cozy full sized bed, a great shower in the hut itself (rare), perfect hot running water and a plumbed in toilet (not composting like the norm). The cooking facilities are outside (as advertised) and in addition to the BBQ you have a mini oven, 2 hobs, a grill and a fridge all in the barn next door. There is also a nice table and some chairs in this barn if you fancy eating outside but sheltered from the elements. Once again all of this is brilliantly thought through with even lighting for your courtyard and the barn for the evening. There are plenty of local pubs around but you do really need car to get around (or a taxi, plenty of numbers left in the hut). The owners sent us detailed instructions before we arrived and although we didn't meet them, it was clear that they could be on hand if needed. We enjoyed lighting the log burner, cooking some local food and watching a movie (using the inclusive WIFI!). This truly is Glamping at its best. There were loads of other great touches (like tea coffee and sauces left in the hut), more than could be written in this review. We will absolutely be back. Thanks to the owners for a great stay.

“A unique retreat - highly recommended”
Reviewed March 11, 2015 for a stay in March 2015

We've just come back from the Shepherds Hut (March 2015).
Brilliant service throughout from Sue and Tim.

Sue gave us some really good recommendations of what to do and see locally before we travelled, so we were able to plan our trip with minimal effort. Sue also included comprehensive instructions, so we were able to check in without any fuss. They went the extra mile to make us feel at home, without being intrusive. As we had nice weather, they got the BBQ out for us to use, and also lent us their mountain bikes so that we could have a ride around the downs.

Sue and Tim made some great suggestions for food and drink - The black rabbit (pub food), The Badger (pub dinner), 'So India' for a curry and Charlie's farm shop for local produce.
Loved having the wood burner in the hut - made it a really cosy experience.

Make sure to bring some wellies, as the ground was quite muddy when we came, and there's a short walk between the car park and the hut, so be careful not to bring mud in!

“Awesome weekend in a lovely location”
Reviewed September 1, 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We could not fault the Shepherds Hut. A really unique place to stay with fantastic facilities. We spent a weekend here and wnjoyed using the BBQ and outside area. There are sheep in the adjacent field which we loved. The pictures are entirely accurate and show the hut off really well. Owners Tim and Sue were on hand on Saturday evening for a friendly chat across the garden fence. We will definitely be coming back!
