We found this pub by chance and had great meals that were good value and generous portions. I had ham, egg and chips and my husband had a fantastic ploughmans with a good variety of cheese, ham, pickles and a cottage roll. Ploughmans can vary considerably in quality and quantity, and price is no indicator of either. The setting was beautiful but unfortunately it was too cold to sit outside. We had a chat to the landlord who was very evident and trying to ensure his customers were happy. We will definitely visit again and have recommended it to several friends looking for an above average pub lunch.

Having driven past on numerous occasions we decided to stop for lunch one sunny Saturday recently. It was a mistake from the outset. The snack menu was poor and the ploughman's lunch which appeared to be the best option was dreadful. Thin slice of supermarket packet ham, tasteless cheddar and tiny bread roll. Probably fine for a drink in the garden but avoid the food!

Just had worst meal ever in this pub, had a taste card so thought we'd try it, first impressions stank of dogs, filthy carpets, thick layer of dust on windowsills, very nasty plastic flowers on table, rather cool reception, told to sit where we liked nobody else booked in. Ordered caprese salad I.e basil, mozzarella and tomato, basil ok, tomato 4 thin slices of flavourless cheap kind, and very small dices of nasty hard pizza style mozzarella drizzled with oil. Then had scampi chips and salad which although scampi and chips were deep fried, hot and fairly crispy had cheap, out of a jar tartare sauce and thick yellow gooey salad dressing on salad, was asked if I wanted a slice of lemon and then given one on A separate plate. Hubby meals a little better but not much. We were asked if everything was ok and being good old Brits just said yes, paid up and left. It's a shame, the pub has a stunning location and could be amazing. With a complete face lift and a chef that's actually trained. Please don't waste money here. For locals with dogs only

This has been our local for years and we have always loved it as a great summer pub. Went last week and they had a new chef and new menu which was just awful and very wintery type food on it. Service was dreadful and the owners attitude was appauling. The one member of staff was almost in tears and she was really trying her best. After waiting nearly an hour for our food it was just awful. Such a shame as we used to love the food and atmosphere of this pub in the summer, we won't be returning.

A lovely pub, good beer lovely location. Probably the worst lunchtime food you will ever experience. With a wafer thin piece of cheese, poorly cooked ham, half an apple and a hot, yes hot roll, 5 inches long and about three inches in circumference and all at £6.95 I considered myself well and truly ripped off. Did the management care? No not really. Go on spoil yourself and give yourself a great treat out! Oh and you should have seen the chicken baguette !
