Description: The Stag Inn is a lovely, country pub set in the beautiful village of Balls Cross in Petworth. The menu changes on a weekly basis and all their products are sourced locally. With traditional log fire and award winning Badger ales - a warm welcome and great food is assured.

Highly advise to choose between starter or desert (or just have the main course as that probably would be enough!!) as the portions were surprisingly extremely generous. The menu did lend itself to mostly fish. Food was tasty and well presented. It was very busy and so would strongly advise booking. All in all a good experience.

4 of us went for an ad-hoc meL and drink following a walk in Petworth Park. The beer rang, although limited, was really well kept and all draft, with real cider available as well. The menu was short, but varied, and had plenty of choice. We did not have long to wait, and what we were served was excellent. It was well cooked and really well presented. The staff were all really attentive, and more than happy to join in light-hearted banter. We intended to only have a quick snack, but were there for over 2 hours it was that good. We will return, as there are several walks in the area that we will now be looking to do.................when the weather improves. A genuine country pub that does not oversell itself

A proper country pub with a proper chef. What more could you ask. Winter or summer the menu has something to reflect the season as well as old favourites. From a lite bite to a full on blow out Simon and Erika are the best and that's as good as it gets in the Landlord terms.

Dropped in with half hour notice to enjoy a great roast beef Sunday lunch for 4. Good real ale beforehand, service was good and the roast beef was truly medium rare as promised - 1/4 thick slices - superb! Never been before, a great find, and we will go again,

They have a classic car evening last Wednesday of each month, may try that too . . .

Lovely little pub exactly as you imagine one should be.
Very pleased to find that the food, service and everything else matched our first impressions.
Very nice outside areas both back & front.
Superb menu very reasonably priced for the quality (and portions!).
The Badger beer battered fish & chip was truly excellent as we're the Fish cakes
Not knowing how generous the mains would be we ordered starters of Calamari & Ciabatta dipping oil which were also first class although probably not really needed.
Having said that it's going to be hard to resist taking starter again in future as they are so appetising.
We will certainly be revisiting the Stag on a regular basis in future.
