My wife and I chose the Stag Inn for a lunchtime stop on the basis of its superb reviews and we were not disappointed. Location is lovely, food excellent and service welcoming and efficient. We most enjoyed our meal and will definitely return. A real find.

It's a relief to visit pubs that stay true to their simpler traditions from the past; tasty wholesome food, interconnecting small rooms, flagstones, good beers. A popular venue with vintage car owners, making a charming country drive to a quiet roadside venue.

We find it is always such a struggle to find a decent place to have a Sunday lunch without having to take out a second mortgage. Somewhere that has a limited menu, uses fresh ingredients, cooks the food well so that everything is super tasty and doesn't charge over £20 for a Sunday roast! Today we believe we found that place in a lovely English setting.

We had a cousin over from South Africa and planned a walk with our dogs at Petworth Park to show him a bit of beautiful England. We then wanted to take him to a typical country pub for Sunday lunch to finish off the day before taking him to Heathrow for his return journey to Johannesburg.

Well the day truly blew him away, sunshine, wonderful walk and a great pub. We had booked a table indoors but it was no nice outside we joined up three tables for the eleven of us and just got on with it. The staff were lovely, so helpful and smiley and the menu was one page of lovely fresh offerings. We mostly went for the roast pork which was very tasty with very tasty roast potatoes and vegetables. It also had a chunk of beautifully cooked pork belly that just added to the overall flavours. For pud we had fresh apple crumble made with Grand Marnier which gave it a super little kick and a choice of custard, cream or ice cream.

EVERYONE agreed it had been a super meal, in a lovely settling and we all left feeling we had enjoyed a lovely day together.

Friendly staff, beautiful setting, plenty of out door seating (ideal if you have a dog with you) and wonderful food. We had a Ploughman's lunch which we thought a little pricey at £10 each but when it arrived we were blown away at the quantity and quality of the meal. Soft drinks however were a little over priced for unbranded cola. Other than that a lovely pub and will definitely visit again.
