“Disappointed.”
Reviewed March 25, 2013

Sadly the house wasn't open on the Thursday we visited but we were able to view the Turner paintings on a 'Snapshot tour' The restaurant was only serving food on a cooked to order basis which involved a 20 minute wait so we had sandwich and cake instead - which was quite expensive. Best to check opening hours before visiting. The house and grounds are magnificent and we will hopefully return for a proper visit.

“Worth a visit, shame about some of the NT Volunteers”
Reviewed March 24, 2013 via mobile

We hadn't been to Petworth House for quite a while. The house is really fantastic, so much history. The Turner painting were so good, typical Turner paintings I loved them. The only downer were some of the volunteers. About 75% of them really made us feel that we were interrupting them. I expect they are really knowledgable and proud of Petworth. Perhaps a course in how to deal with the public might be needed. Saying that, I will still go back to Petworth, I will just keep out of the way of the volunteers.

“Beautiful house and gardens”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

We recently visited this wonderful national trust property and would thoroughly recommend it.

It was our first visit to a national trust property and it was money well spent.

Car parking was available on site (pay and display) and entry was via the national trust visitor ticket office. A courtesy vehicle is available for those who are mobility impaired.

Enthusiastic volunteers and staff really make this trip worthwhile, with their in depth knowledge of the property making it all come alive. The house itself is huge and so many rooms which conjure up visions of a bygone era. Hugely cute were the small groups of children going through the house all dressed in period costumes solemnly learning about the inner workings of the kitchen or the table settings in the massive dining room.

There is a gift shop and restaurant on site. We didn't visit the restaurant after seeing the menu offerings and prices (fairly basic fare - sausages and mash).

The deer roam freely in the grounds of petworth, and would have been a delight to see had rain not poured down.

The gardens are well worth the visit alone, with the amazing landscaping.

Turner's paintings are of course another highlight.

If you have children, there are dress up closets and other child related activities, so don't hesitate to take your children.

Enjoy!

“Beautiful grounds and house.”
Reviewed March 12, 2013

We spent two hours walking around the grounds and we were able to take the dogs.

The cafe served hot drinks and delicious cakes, a great welcome after our long walk.

“Turner's paintings”
Reviewed March 9, 2013

We thoroughly enjoyed the exhibition of Turner's paintings, not to mention all the other paintings in the house. The Grinling Gibbons' wood carvings were just spectacular and we enjoyed our walk in the park with the spring flowers. The food in the cafe and restaurant was tasty and quite good value.
