“Good food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 29, 2013

Wasnt sure what to expect having quite recently reopened, but was pleasantly supprised! Food was of high quality, staff very friendly and accommodating.
Cheese board wasn't the most generous however the selection of cheeses was very nice.
Initially wasn't comfortable going with children as there was not a children's menu and atmosphere didn't look particularly child friendly but they did accommodate us and will do smaller options on the menu when asked. Would recommend!!

“Excellent as always.. stunning lamb!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 29, 2013

Popped in for a family lunch today, service and food was excellent as always. My wife had the lamb and it was utterly delicious......I had to steal some! Real ale perfectly served too. Sticky toffee pudding was excellent and not too big a portion. just right. If you want top class restaurant food in a traditional pub setting the Crabtree is spot on...

“Birthday Lunch on a very unusually cold Sunday in March”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 25, 2013

When I booked I could only get the early 1200hrs sitting which was ok. This was our first visit to The Crabtree. When we sat down we were seated beside a rather lukewarm radiator and felt cold. One lady sitting on table beside us sat with coat on throughout lunch. We did comment to the waiter who just said they had had problems with heating earlier on but maybe they should have lit the fire and put heating on much earlier in the morning ready for lunch as this was an exceptionally cold day for late March!

We ordered from the Sunday lunch menu. Soup very tasty. Hock and Pate starters very good. My fish starter was nice but very small portion of smoked salmon served and no brown bread or roll offered.
Roast rump of Redlands farm beef was very tender, good sized portion and very well received as were the giant yorkshire puddings...definately the best roast beef tasted recently. My Sussex shoulder of lamb also very tasty. Good choice of seasonal vegetable served separately. My husband thought they were undercooked but I liked them. Excellent to find local produce mentioned on menu.
Sticky toffee portion...large serving...scrumptious. Chocolate brownie...delicious.

Apart from feeling cold my only other comment would be that we sat with an array of unnecessary glasses on our table throughout meal and we had to ask for water.

All in all I would recommend this restaurant for a very well presented reasonably priced Sunday lunch served in a professional, no fuss manner.

When we left the place was buzzing, very cosy atmosphere and car park full. We live not far away.
We will be back!

“A little disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2013

An unusual but delightful restaurant arranged in little annexes which could cater for larger tables & groups.
However we were a group of 8 & most of us chose from the £14 2-course lunch menu, which was a little disappointing as you could only choose a starter & main and not the usual choice of a main & sweet course if preferred. Also the sweet course was a strange mixture - especially the blood orange jelly & ice cream which was rather bland and a little overpriced at £5
All in all a pleasant meal in nice surroundings but not exceptional. Service was excellent - we had a very pleasant young lady who was very patient & attentive.
