“Nice meal in a compact restaurant”
Reviewed March 5, 2014

We enjoyed one of the tasting menus at the pass and most of the courses worked well. It's derserving of it's single star, not more, so one that has been reviewed at the right level which isn't always the case with the Michelin Guide. Not outstanding then, but well worth a visit as prices are reasonable, the setting (in the kitchens) is enjoyable.

“Excellent as always exceeds all expectations”
Reviewed March 4, 2014

Another wonderful lunch with amazing food and service, I love the chefs serving the food at the table an opportnity to meet the team of people who make the Pass as special as it is and to ask those questions you might not otherwise ask.
This restaurant is absolutely everything a Michelin starred restaurant should be, is 1star enough?

“our second visit, as good as the first”
Reviewed March 1, 2014 via mobile

The Pass at South Lodge is certainly one of the finest this side of the channel and better than many top restaurants in France. The tasting menu was imaginative and every ingredient was bursting with flavour. The service was perfect, professional and slightly aloof. It is great watching the chefs at work and it is clear that they are passionate about their art. Cannot wait for another excuse to return.

“Valentines Dinner to Remember”
Reviewed February 26, 2014

My Wife decided to surprise me this year and take me to a secret location for Valentines Dinner. South Lodge did not disappoint what a wonderful dining experience I had a fabulous meal with wonderful wines with each course. The evening was rounded off with champagne in the lounge being entertained by a talented pianist. My wife is intolerant to certain foods and the menu had been adjusted by SL but it only left her one choice on each course and although the starter and main she said was fabulous the desert was a sort of trifle with hundreds and thousands on the top a bit of a let down really. Overall a really good time and we are saving up to go back again

“Pretentious”
Reviewed February 17, 2014

From the moment we arrived - it took nearly half an hour just to get a drink - to the moment we left - it took four goes to get the bill anywhere near correct - this was a hopeless experience. Minute portions of combinations that just didn't work (and in many cases were very salty) were served in a clinical environment by a huge army of staff - no wonder prices are so high! Delays between courses were extensive, so we were grateful for large amount of bread provided (even though its texture suggested it had been microwaved to keep hunger pangs away. Posh - no; pretentious more like it.

Dear Orienteer20,

I am sorry you did not enjoy your visit to The Pass.

We are all proud that out of the 146 guests who have taken the time to review their experience, 119 of them have awarded us 5 stars. In addition, the overwhelming majority of our guests have a memorable experience and do take the time to share their views with us directly. What a pity it is to therefore receive our first 1 star review.

You can be rest assured our bread is made each morning and we do not use microwaves in any of our kitchens.

Yours sincerely,

Mark Surguy
