Owned by the National Trust and so well cared for. The house is a partial ruin following a fire in 1947 but it is still a beautiful house. A former home built by a German businessman for his family as a retreat from London in the late Victorian period.
The house is lovely, very homely with all the original fittings. The formal gardens are well cared for and well laid out. Beyond the formal gardens (across a road) is the Wild Garden which is also beautiful with lots of rare trees.
It's extremely photogenic with lots of atmospheric photo opportunities.

Nymans Gardens is a very beautiful place to visit and is a National Trust property (so free entry if you're a Nat Trust member). I've been a couple of times recently as it's a lovely time of year to visit. There's a wide variety of flowers which look absolutely stunning. There's also a good range of trees, bamboos and topiary. The staff all seem delightful and are v.ery helpful. The paths around the garden are well laid out and fairly level, so this place is wheelchair-friendly. They have a cafe which looks very nice (though I haven't tried it yet) and also a nursery section and a book shop. One of the staff told me that there is a wildflower garden over the road as well as the main gardens - I wouldn't have known about this otherwise. The car park does get quite full so try to get there reasonably early. Lovely place and will visit again.

We visited Nymans on Bank Holiday Monday. No surprise, very busy! Lovely large gardens: Rose Garden, formal border gardens with lots of annuals and perennials in flower. We particularly enjoyed the blue flowerering nettles alive with butterflies, bee and other insects. Large grounds with woodland type walks with large specimen trees from all over the world. Interesting ruined house (destroyed by fire over 60 years ago) with some undamaged rooms open to the public. We visit frequently- it's our nearest NT property. We enjoy the Cafe, the garden shop with many of the smaller plants that you see on your visit having examples for sale, and the National Trust Shop. The NT staff as always are very helpful and full of guidance. Highly recommended.

Arrived in good time one spring Saturday and parked easily in the easier reaches of the car park. Decided to go for our usual elevenses and found what was on offer a tad limited but this seems to be the way with current NT catering. Do not understand why limited hot food offerings exist when there are clear opening times and undoubtedly an expected rush of visitors many travelling fair distances to these attractions.
NT needs an injection of energy rather than casual complacency!

We visited Nymans NT this week. It is much flatter than Sheffield Park and Wakehurst so it is handy if you have trouble with steps or hills. A very relaxing place and we spend ages in the walled garden where the borders were the best we had seen. Would have liked to have seen labels with the names of the plants, though I suspect they were there but covered as the plants grew.
We did not use the café as we took a picnic. There are picnic tables dotted about and loads of benches! We did not go into the house this time as we have been in a couple of times before, the weather was good so we just wanted to enjoy the garden.
There is a nice shop and as you would expect, plants for sale of good quality. A lovely day out.
