“Always a guaranteed great meal”
Reviewed May 4, 2014

This is a regular for us. The bar is lovely, snug, warm and staff very welcoming. Took my husband for his birthday, as we know the menu is always changing, local produce and local ales. One of the starters had curried toast, which was divine. And then sausage and mash. Easy dish, but the flavour of the sausages were perfect. Mash not lumpy, very well done. Onion gravy which is not as strong as you'd think, very delicate and not stewed. The wine list is always good. We've had different red wines each time, and they've been very good. What we love about this place is the setting. Tucked away just off the road with views of sheep and lambs in a quintessentially countryside spot. Summer here in the garden is another great excuse to come, even if it's just for a drink. Just love this place.

“Great country pub, nice food, would return”
Reviewed April 22, 2014

Had a really nice dinner, at very last minute booking over Easter weekend. The staff were friendly, food was great, would recommend a visit to anyone. The pub is a proper pub, not over styled, but tastefully done. Has good ales on tap too.

“Restaurant quality at pub prices”
Reviewed April 11, 2014

This was a return visit and it certainly didn't disappoint. No idea why there are some gripes about price. It seems very fair for high end food rather than Brake Brothers finest. The pub was busy when we arrived on a Friday lunch time and the staff were remarkably cheerful and friendly. There are two small bars and a larger dining room – all of which are original pub decor rather than "I saw you coming" retro tat. The beer was the excellent Harvey's and there was an alternative small brewery bitter available. The menu is extensive and varies from cheap and cheerful pub staples through to more sophisticated but hearty meals. We shared an excellent home-made Focaccia bread which is sublime and very filling. Main courses were pork in a cherry sauce with gravy on the side and guinea fowl with pickled rhubarb. Both demonstrated cooking of the highest quality. Service was not slow but about right for someone to cook from scratch rather than pinging a microwave. We would heartily recommend the Coach and Horses and hope that no-one reads this in case they go and we can't get a table.

“Lovely Sunday Lunch”
Reviewed April 6, 2014 via mobile

Six of us visited for a later family lunch (the pub books in two sittings: 1200-1230 and after 2pm). Children were well catered for and the service was relaxed and attentive. All food, from bread and olives through to apple crumble was excellent. Roasts were great (pork particularly). Decent choice of wines and a lovely pint of Harveys. Not the cheapest, but good value for the quality of the food and service. Definitely on our list to go back to!
