I was not surprised to see this establishment rated only 3 stars on the food hygiene agency ratings. Just not good enough for an experienced ex michelin star chef!.
After a recent visit (to see if things have improved from my last review) I was most disappointed to have seen the condition of the floors both in the bar and in the eating areas.
I would not eat here again because of the low rating by the FSA
The food is highly rated by many reviewers here, but it is behind the scenes where the troubles begin.
I urge more reviewers to look up the rating of the FSA website before visiting restaurants and raving over the food.

went for an evening meal with friends. Nice friendly atmosphere and good service.
The thing that sold it for me though was the food. All 3 course a delight, with sensibly sized portions. The party of 6 were all delighted. When you compare a pub like this to some of the chains on price and quality, i struggle to understand how the chains survive. The food was excellent, and any pub that serves calves liver has to be a winner!

Returned for Sunday lunch today, to a disappointing meal. Gone were the crispy roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding was flat and soggy and the whole plate was swimming in dark "packet made" gravy. What a change! We discovered the pub had changed hands 2 weeks ago. We shall not be going back.

We have been to this pub many times, the first time for a wedding. The service has always been great and the food would put many top restaurants to shame. Not the easiest of entrances to spot as you drive down the road in the dark but well worth the effort. The food follows the, in my opinion , sensible logic of being good ingredients, well prepared and presented, without trying to get too clever and ram in too many competing flavours. It lets the quality speak for itself. Well worth a visit and good value too
