We recently stayed one night on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis at this hotel.
The setting is outstanding: beautifully renovated medieval farm buildings with modern additions set in extensive parkland. Our room was some distance from the restaurant/reception area and, after dark, we found that the pathways were inadequately lit.
The room was spacious and elegantly furnished. A slight surprise was that the corridor light was not working and, although the staff attempted to deal with the problem, they were unable to do so. As a result, it was difficult to see inside the wardrobe to hang clothes and to make coffee. The bathroom was of the standard we expected of a hotel of this class.
There was a very good atmosphere in the restaurant. We were warmly welcomed and the service throughout was helpful and efficient. We did feel, however, that the food was disappointing for a hotel of this category. The starter of 'roasted plaice on the bone' was difficult to eat ( too many bones to remove) and rather tasteless. The main course, guinea fowl with broccoli and anna potatoes, also failed to impress.
Breakfast was plentiful and cooked to perfection.
We recommend this hotel for its magnificent site, fine accommodation, refined decor, and friendly and courteous staff.
