“Excellent food and welcoming staff”
Reviewed June 16, 2013

Went to the BH for Sunday lunch on Father's Day. The menu was good and the chicken, ham and leek pie was excellent. The Mars cheesecake was delicious and a good sized portion. Complememts to Jessica and the rest of her friendly staff for a good dining experience.

“Dinner”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

Was impressed with the place from the minute we walked in.
Food and drinks were excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful. The owner is doing a great job renovating the building and garden.

“Well done, The Black Horse”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

Visited in late May as a member of a group of 30 bikers. We'd had a Bank Holiday weekend rally and the Black Horse was the Sunday evening dinner and drinks location.

It's quite well off the beaten track and so if you're not driving, it'll be taxis. Nice looking building in nice countryside, significantly extended at the rear so it's a bit Tardis-like when you go in. Plenty of space for diners; we had the extension area to ourselves.

We'd all pre-ordered and I thought the staff (who were all cheerful and charming) did an excellent job, as did the kitchen in getting all the food ready at pretty much the same time. I had chicken liver pate with a chutney, served with toast and some butter, followed by three local sausages on creamed mashed potatoes, with vegetables served in a small side dish. Very good indeed; the veggies were cooked nicely, were hot, and hadn't been allowed to go soft and mushy, so the kitchens timings were impeccable.

The concensus amongst those I spoke with about the food were that food and service were good, and very good indeed when adding in the fact that we were a large group. One of our number wasn't happy with his burger and sent it back (overcooked) but one out of thirty ain't a bad average.

Good beers at the bar - the Arundel Golden Bitter is superb.

“Such a shame”
Reviewed May 20, 2013 via mobile

We previously ate here loads, obviously changed hands now. Nothing like before. Food was OK, service good but not a special place to eat anymore.
