The initial thing that hits you when you drive along the long, winding driveway is this place looks like a working farm. From parking up to walking into the reception/cafe area you half expect to see a herd of cows being guided into the buildings. It's only when you walk into the cafe do you realise you've arrived at a winery proper. It used to be a working farm so that's part of the reason, they are also doing work to some of the buildings as well and replanting an entire stretch of land near the driveway entrance.

We were greeted warmly and given a glass of bubbly whilst we waited for the tour to start. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and really explained the whole process of grape growing, harvesting and production of red, white, rose and sparkling English wine. Although it was a blowy winters day, it was a fascinating day out and I really came away feeling like I'd learned something, in a good way!

Having toured the vine processing area, we were shown to the bottling area then back to the cafe for some more tasting.

We were then given three more very small glasses of wine, two sparkling and a red. I was driving so the entire alcohol intake on the whole tour is under two glasses.

In terms of the cream tea element which came with our voucher I would say the savoury scones with chutney were not quite right. I think they were trying to do something a little different than just butter, scones and cream but to be honest I would have preferred exactly that. The tea was gorgeous though, very refreshing.

All in all a good tour which can make some improvements. I came away feeling glad we went and happy to be supporting a well run family business.

Visited on a rather bleak January day which limited the scope for viewing the vineyards, but nevertheless an entertaining and informative visit with tour guide Alan. Particularly good to see the champagne method production process for the for the sparkling wines, and to taste the output, which is every bit as good as the the efforts of the Reims and Epernay crowd.

We visited here after seeing signs for the cafe on a wander round local roads - and what a nice little find it was.

We were initially slightly put off by the drive into what looked like a rather unprepossessing farmyard, but in the cafe itself all was nicely smart and the staff were very professional. They like to serve local produce, and it was great that my tea was from English grown leaves. Even though we only came in for morning coffee and tea, we were still given samples of their sparkling rose.
