“Needs More to Attract Visitors”
Reviewed May 12, 2013

Despite the reputation of this attraction, we paid it a visit. On entry the place looks full of interesting things but once you start walking around it soon becomes apparent that this is a largely empty exhibiton with very little of interest on the spiral walkway to the top of the building. On a positive note on the day we visited, there was an exhibition being set up and one of the staff happily escorted us around the new section even though it was very much in the setting up stage. You may manage to kill an hour in here but probably wont have much of a memory of your trip

“This place just gets better and better”
Reviewed April 20, 2013

I visited again recently to see a show and you can tell the Public is grwoing from strength to strength. Quality staff, quality acts, speedy service all makes it a must go to venue in Sandwell. It really could rival the dingy Robin2 in Bilston if more acts were prepared to visit on a regular basis.

“Not much to do”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

Having heard about this place we thought we'd take our children in the Easter holidays, we also went with a couple of friends. Our children are aged 8, 5 and 3. I was expecting interactive exhibits on par with the science museum in London, though perhaps not on such a grand scale.
In reality it was very disappointing. It verges on the peculiar. There is nothing there really for the kids to do, many of the touchscreens did not work and the things that were there had no explanation as to what you had to do, or indeed WHY you were doing them.
The only thing that interested the kids was the part where your photo is taken multiple times and shows up on the wall behind you. Easy enough to figure out what to do given no instructions again!

There was also a craft activity being set up, where the kids would have been able to make a paper doll (2d shape, concertina legs, nothing much to it) would have been a fun activity except they wanted £4 for each child to participate. For £12 I can buy a whole lot more to keep them entertained!

So, on the whole, a beautiful building which does not, I feel, live up to the potential it has. Get someone to visit Think Tank or the Science Museum and get some ideas for proper interactive stuff for the kids to do. Perhaps then you will have more visitors through the door!

“great fun”
Reviewed March 9, 2013

My son went to a learnplay foundation day in the half term.It is for 11 plus year olds. The children got to design a computer game level for a character they made and in 2nd half they got to play the game.My 11yr old loved it.It was £3 for 3hours which was great.Parents of under 14s had to stay in the building but the cafe is right next to where kids are but take your book! The cafe is very reasonably priced(coffee cake delicious) however it was very cold in there. It is on again at Easter £4 this time and you have to ring and book tickets

“It gets better”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

I visited the Public for a company work day. I must say I was gratefully surprised how good the place was compared when it opened. The cafe served up very quickly seeing there were 60 to 70 people wanting drinks. The organisation was econd to none well done the Public.
