We have been visiting the park for years .. theres a great view all around from the top summer or winter. You will often find radio controlled gliders being flown as its great for slope soaring. There are toilet facilities and plenty of parking, though you have to pay to do so. I would tell my girls that the windmill stump was a magic fairy tower and if you went there at the right time of year the blocked up door woold open into fairyland.

Parked on the road on in a nearby village and walked up to the park (1 1/2 miles). Heard about the views before I came so I can happily confirm that you can see seven counties from the highest point. A handy information disc points out all the relevant places and features. There are roads up to the top, in fact there are too many roads, tracks and car parks. What's the point in going for a walk in the country if you're never more than 50 yards from the ubiquitous Motor car?
As if to confirm my impressions, a carful of Chavs drove up and started to drive 'off-road' in a Ford Fiesta and to churn up the ground attempting donuts. Close the road to all but locals and give us back our countryside. End of lecture.

I'd had a long weekend in the area staying at the Premier Inn down the road from this country park. After checking-out, I wanted somewhere to stop off before I started on the long drive home - this place was ideal as the weather was great.

It costs £1.50 to park for the day and the there are a few little car parks dotted around the country park. There are also some loos for visitors and there was an ice cream van when I went.

The park itself is a collection of little hilltops but without much strenuous walking in between. Often you find with these places that you park up and then have no idea where you're supposed to walk but, here, it's pretty clear where the paths are. Some are roughly surfaced and others are tracks through the grassland but you can easily see what lead where and plan a little walk.

Because of being a number of hilltops, the Park has various vantage points and the views are fantastic. You really can see for miles.

There were plenty of people there when I went on a Sunday morning - walking dogs, flying kites, flying model airplanes or just sunbathing and admiring the view. There are a few picnic benches dotted about the place too so it would be an ideal spot for a picnic.

All in all a nice place to spend a bit of time at the end of my visit to the area.

It is a small area of hilltops which are quite barren and used for sheep grazing. So a lot of sheep mess and the sheep are free to roam all over. Not the place to take a dog unless you are prepared to keep it on a lead. There are no facilities at all apart from a set of male and female toilets which are unheated and are often quite rancid. The toilets are not easy to access if you have mobility problems and often you have to fight your way through sheep to get to the door. The toilets are locked outside of normal shop/office hours which is pretty useless. The dirt roadways are not maintained, are really seriously uneven and potholed. You cannot have any barbeque's and there is nowhere to shelter if it rains. There are perhaps at best 4 or 5 wooden picnic tables dotted around the hills, but that is all. Access by car only unless you are super fit !!!! To climb the long steep hills to get up there. The car parking charges are not worth it considering there are no facilities and a cold, dirty set of tiolets which aren't open very often. Lovely views over countryside and the M40, but there should be some facilities other than none. I recommend a visit to All Saints Church which is nestled in the Burton Dasset hills and well out of sight. This is the site where the Knights Templars returned to England after the Crusades 700 years ago, so go and find the church ! Amazing history there !
